A comparison of invasive arterial blood pressure measurement with oscillometric non-invasive blood pressure measurement in patients with sepsis.
This study aimed to compare non-invasive oscillometric blood pressure (NIBP) measurement with invasive arterial blood pressure (IBP) measurement in patients with sepsis. ⋯ IBP and NIBP were not interchangeable in septic patients. Clinicians should be aware that non-invasive MAP was clinically and significantly underestimated invasive MAP.

Sepsis-associated brain dysfunction (SABD) is frequent and is associated with poor outcome. Changes in brain hemodynamics remain poorly described in this setting. The aim of this study was to investigate the alterations of cerebral perfusion pressure and intracranial pressure in a cohort of septic patients. ⋯ Brain hemodynamics, in particular CPP, were altered in one third of critically ill septic patients at a steady state of monitoring performed early during the course of sepsis. However, these alterations were equally common in patients who developed or did not develop SABD during the ICU stay and in patients with favorable or unfavorable outcome.

Clinical outcomes in combination versus mono antibiotic therapy in ICU admitted patients with a suspected infection - A substudy of the DIANA study.
In a retrospective cohort study of intensive care unit (ICU) admitted adult patients with suspected or confirmed infection, associations between combination versus mono empirical antibiotic therapy and clinical cure at day 7 as well as mortality at day 7 and 28, were investigated. ⋯ This study found no differences in clinical cure and mortality between empirical combination versus mono therapy in a large cohort of ICU patients with a suspected infection.

Dose equivalence for metaraminol and noradrenaline - A retrospective analysis.
Noradrenaline and metaraminol are commonly used vasopressors in critically ill patients. However, little is known of their dose equivalence. ⋯ The median dose equivalence for metaraminol and noradrenaline in this study was 12.5:1. However, there was significant variance in dose equivalence, only half the proportion of variation in noradrenaline infusion dose was predicted by metaraminol dose, and conversion-associated hypotension was common.
