High-frequency (10-kHz) spinal cord stimulation (SCS) continues to be an emerging therapy in chronic pain management. The same complications that plagued earlier SCS systems may affect newer stimulation technologies, although there is limited data on the type of complications and surgical management of these complications. ⋯ This retrospective 5-year analysis of complications from10-kHz SCS provides a real-world assessment of safety data unique for this stimulation modality. This analysis may help inform future clinical decisions, lead to device enhancement and optimization, and improve mitigation of risks to provide safe and efficacious use of 10-kHz SCS.

The aim was to examine research on the impact of spinal cord stimulation (SCS) on the reduction of preimplantation opioid dose and what preimplantation opioid dose is associated with a reduction or discontinuation of opioid use postimplantation. ⋯ SCS is an effective treatment for many types of chronic pain and can reduce or eliminate chronic opioid use. Preimplantation opioid dose may impact discontinuation of opioid use postimplantation and the effectiveness of SCS in the relief of chronic pain. More research is needed to support and strengthen clinical recommendations for initiation of SCS use at lower daily opioid dose.

Intravenous lignocaine has an emerging role in the treatment of acute pain within the perioperative setting, as recent consensus guidelines from the Association of Anaesthetists have shown. It has played a role in chronic pain management in recent decades, and continues to be a useful tool for pain specialists.

Steroid in chronic subdural hematoma: an updated systematic review and meta-analysis post DEX-CSDH Trial.
Chronic subdural hematoma (CSDH) is a neurologic condition characterized as a hematoma in the subdural space with a period >3 weeks that primarily affects the elderly. Glucocorticoid, especially dexamethasone, either alone or combined with surgery, has been used to manage CSDH. We aimed to perform an updated systematic review and meta-analysis of the literature regarding the role of steroids in CSDH. ⋯ Treatment with steroids was associated with a lesser recurrence of CSDH. However, there was no benefit of steroid treatment in CSDH compared with nonsteroid treatment in terms of mortality and treatment success and some but significantly increased risk of adverse events.

Hematuria and subsequent long-term risk of end-stage kidney disease: A Danish population-based cohort study.
Hematuria is a frequent incidental clinical finding and may be a symptom of pre-existing underlying benign or malignant urinary tract or kidney disease. However, in patients with no apparent underlying cause of hematuria, long-term prognosis of hematuria remains unknown. ⋯ A hospital-based hematuria diagnosis in patients with no apparent underlying cause of hematuria is a marker of an increased risk of future ESKD.
