Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) has a high clinical prevalence and frequently interferes with patients normal lives. In KOA patients, evidence suggests that intra-articular (IA) injection improves joint function and decreases discomfort. Several IA injection treatments are used in daily practice to improve symptomatic control of knee osteoarthritis, but their efficacy is frequently disputed. ⋯ In patients with mild to moderate KOA, IA injection PRP outperformed IA injection ozone, HA, CS, platelet-rich plasma-derived growth factor, and hyaluronic acid and platelet-rich plasma in terms of pain, stiffness, and dysfunction.

The effect of training using an upper limb rehabilitation robot (HEXO-UR30A) in chronic stroke patients: A randomized controlled trial.
Upper limb robotic rehabilitation can be beneficial to the patients when applied appropriately. HEXO-UR30A is a novel exoskeletal type upper limb rehabilitation robot that provides continuous passive motion to the shoulder joint. ⋯ These results show that HEXO-UR30A can improve functional ability in chronic stroke patients. Moreover, the high satisfaction in patients might promote active involvement in upper limb rehabilitation.

Effects of elongation longitudinaux avec decoaption osteo-articulaire and post-facilitation stretching technique on pain and functional disability in mobile users with text neck syndrome during COVID-19 pandemic: A randomized controlled trial.
Adolescent smartphone users have developed a variety of musculoskeletal conditions due to their use of smartphones. ELDOA (Elongation longitudinaux avec decoaption osteo-articulaire) is based on maximizing facial and spinal stretching by assuming specific posture for 1 minute and post facilitation stretching is also a type of muscle energy technique that is used for chronically shortened or tight muscles. This aimed to compare the effects of post-facilitation stretching technique and ELDOA on neck pain and functional disability in mobile users experiencing Text neck syndrome during COVID-19. ⋯ The study concluded that ELDOA method and post-facilitation stretching both were effective in treating neck pain and functional disability. However, ELDOA method was superior to post-facilitation stretching effects on neck pain and functional disability among patients with text neck syndrome.

In a prior study, we identified a novel sepsis specific long noncoding RNAs (lncRNA) RP11-284N8.3, which may primarily participate in T cell activation and immune response during sepsis. However, the clinical significance of lncRNA RP11-284N8.3 in sepsis remains entirely unknown. This single-center prospective cohort study enrolled 147 adults with sepsis and 74 healthy controls (HCs) with matched age and sex between January 2021 and November 2022 at our hospital. ⋯ The relative expression of lncRNA RP11-284N8.3 was significantly decreased in adults with sepsis compared to HCs (P < .0001), in adults with septic shock compared to adults without shock (P = .0012), and in 28-day deaths compared to 28-day survivors (P = .0006). receiver operating characteristic curves of lncRNA RP11-284N8.3 in predicting sepsis severity and 28-day mortality showed an area under the curve of 0.6570 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.5701-0.7440) and an area under the curve of 0.6765 (95% CI: 0.5809-0.7721), respectively. Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that lncRNA RP11-284N8.3 was an independent risk factor for 28-day mortality in adults with sepsis (odds ratio: 0.1057, 95% CI: 0.0115-0.7746, P = .0328). Low expression of lncRNA RP11-284N8.3 is correlated with increased risk, severity and 28-day mortality in adults with sepsis, and it may function as a potential biomarker to facilitate the diagnosis and management of sepsis.

During the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic, Ayurvedic herbal supplements and homeopathic immune boosters (IBs) were promoted as disease-preventive agents. The present study examined the clinical outcomes among patients with chronic liver disease who presented with complications of portal hypertension or liver dysfunction temporally associated with the use of IBs in the absence of other competing causes. This single-center retrospective observational cohort study included patients with chronic liver disease admitted for the evaluation and management of jaundice, ascites, or hepatic encephalopathy temporally associated with the consumption of IBs and followed up for 180 days. ⋯ IB analysis revealed detectable levels of (heavy metals) As (40%), Pb (60%), Hg (60%), and various hepatotoxic phytochemicals. Ayurvedic and Homeopathic supplements sold as IBs potentially cause the worsening of preexisting liver disease. Responsible dissemination of scientifically validated, evidence-based medical health information from regulatory bodies and media may help ameliorate this modifiable liver health burden.
