Non-invasive vagus nerve stimulation modulates trigeminal but not somatosensory perception: functional evidence for a trigemino-vagal system in humans.
Noninvasive vagus nerve stimulation (nVNS) is effective in several types of headache disorders. We sought to unravel the mechanism of how nVNS exhibits this efficacy. This study used a randomized, single-blind, sham-controlled, crossover design and comprised 3 projects with 3 independent cohorts of healthy participants. ⋯ Heart rate variability parameters did not change after nVNS. Our results provide functional evidence of a long hypothesized functional trigemino-vagal system in humans and may explain why nVNS is effective in some headache disorders but not in somatic pain disorders. Because unilateral nVNS modulated the trigeminal thresholds bilaterally, this effect is probably indirect through a central top-down mechanism.

Effectiveness of a physical activity intervention on the overweight and obesity of Chilean schoolchildren.
Physical fitness is considered a measure that integrates most of the functions of the human organism that are involved in physical activity. Motor competence is important due to its observed implications in the physical, mental and social development of children and adolescents. These assessments require the existence of updated reference values that allow the categorization of individuals and groups according to levels of physical fitness and motor competence. This paper describes the study protocol to Effectiveness of a Physical Activity Intervention on the Overweight and Obesity of Chilean Schoolchildren, and in this way determine, through the calculation of a representative sample, reference values for physical fitness and motor competence in children aged 4 to 6 years in the region of La Araucanía, Chile. ⋯ the lack of reference values for physical condition and motor competence for children between 6 and 4 years of age in the Araucanía region highlights the need to establish values, which will contribute to improving the health of children of the age group to be worked on.

Bronchodilators in Tobacco-Exposed Persons with Symptoms and Preserved Lung Function.
Many persons with a history of smoking tobacco have clinically significant respiratory symptoms despite an absence of airflow obstruction as assessed by spirometry. They are often treated with medications for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), but supporting evidence for this treatment is lacking. ⋯ Inhaled dual bronchodilator therapy did not decrease respiratory symptoms in symptomatic, tobacco-exposed persons with preserved lung function as assessed by spirometry. Effect of compressive therapy on sensorimotor function of the more affected upper extremity in chronic stroke patients: A randomized clinical trial.
Common upper extremity (UE) physical impairments after stroke include paresis, abnormal muscle tone, and somatosensory affection. This study evaluated the effect of passive somatosensory stimulation using compressive therapy on sensorimotor function of the more affected UE in chronic stroke patients. ⋯ Upper extremity motor and passive somatosensory stimulation techniques are effective in improving sensorimotor function of the more affected UE, but none of them had the advantage over the other, in terms of improving motor and sensory function in chronic stroke patients.

Efficacy of long-term extended nursing services combined with atezolizumab in patients with bladder cancer after endoscopic bladder resection.
Nursing has been reported to effectively ameliorate physical movement, significantly decrease postoperative complications, and markedly improve the quality of life in patients with bladder cancer after endoscopic bladder resection. Atezolizumab (ATZ) has been approved as effective therapy for patients with bladder cancer. This study was aimed to assess the efficacy of long-term extended nursing services combined with ATZ in patients with bladder cancer after endoscopic bladder resection. ⋯ In conclusion, outcomes in this study indicate that LTENS-ATZ improves renal function, and quality of life and prognosis in patients with bladder cancer after endoscopic bladder resection.
