Molnupiravir is an oral antiviral drug that received Emergency Use Authorization in three countries for the treatment of mild COVID-19. The aim of this systematic review was to find out the safety and efficacy of Molnupiravir in SARS-COV-2 infections. ⋯ Evidence from clinical studies showed that Molnupiravir caused significant reduction in the risk of hospitalization or death in high-risk mild COVID-19 patients. Molnupiravir was also found to be well tolerated and safe without any major adverse events on short-term use. For confirmative use of this drug in mild-to-moderate COVID-19 disease, further studies are required in vaccinated COVID-19 patients and against emerging variants.

In May 2021, the B.1.617 variant of SARS-CoV-2 emerged in Ireland, and both Delta and Kappa sub-lineages were initially deemed variants of concern (VOCs) on a precautionary basis. We describe a large outbreak of SARS-CoV-2 B.1.617.1 (Kappa mutation) linked to a private gathering among third level students in Cork, Ireland. ⋯ Enhanced public health control measures for new and emerging variants of SARS-CoV-2 may be burdensome for cases and close contacts. The overall public health benefit of enhanced controls may only become apparent when evidence on disease transmissibility and severity becomes more complete.

A number of evidence showed an emerging role of leptin on immune system, involving inflammation, and innate and adaptive immunity. Few observational studies have evaluated the relationship between leptin and immunity, albeit with low statistical power and methodological differences. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the potential role of leptin on the immunity, expressed as white blood cells (WBC)-and its subpopulations, by comprehensive multivariate models in a sample of adult men. ⋯ After stratification by body weight, the positive and significant association between leptin and WBC-and its subpopulations-was found in excess body weight participants. The results of this study indicate a direct relationship between leptin levels and WBC-and its subpopulations-in excess body weight participants. These results support the hypothesis that leptin has modulatory functions on immunity and role in the pathophysiology of immune-related diseases, in particular in those associated with excess body weight.

Case ReportsGastrointestinal AA Amyloidosis following Recurrent SARS-CoV-2 Infection: A Case Report.
Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection has been associated with the overproduction of serum amyloid A protein, resulting in systemic AA amyloidosis. In this report, we describe a case of gastrointestinal (GI) AA amyloidosis following SARS-CoV-2 infection. A 75-year-old male presented to the emergency department with upper abdominal pain 6 weeks post kidney transplantation. ⋯ The patient was managed conservatively and was also given remdesivir for the SARS-CoV-2 infection. His clinical symptoms subsequently improved, and endoscopic findings demonstrated improvement in multiple gastric ulcers. GI amyloidosis may be a subacute complication following SARS-CoV-2 infection in immunocompromised patients.
