Statin Therapy, Inflammation, and Outcomes in Patients Hospitalized for Covid-19: A Prospective Multicenter Cohort Study.
Statins are lipid-lowering agents with anti-inflammatory effects. Data surrounding the benefits of statins in patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) are conflicting. We sought to better understand the impact of statins in the context of COVID-19-related inflammation. ⋯ Prior-statin use is associated with improved outcomes and lower inflammation as measured by suPAR levels in patients hospitalized for COVID-19.

Did aetiology matter in illness duration and complications in patients presenting in primary care with acute respiratory tract infections early in the COVID-19 pandemic: An observational study in nine countries.
Despite considerable research into COVID-19 sequelae, little is known about differences in illness duration and complications in patients presenting in primary care with symptoms of acute respiratory tract infections (RTI) that are and are not attributed to SARS-CoV-2 infection. ⋯ Early in the pandemic, the proportion of patients not feeling fully recovered by 28 days was similar between SARS-CoV-2 positive and negative patients presenting in primary care with RTI symptoms, but it took somewhat longer for SARS-CoV-2 patients to feel fully recovered. More research is needed on predictors of a complicated course in RTI.

Symptom profile, case and symptom clustering, clinical and demographic characteristics of a multicentre cohort of 1297 patients evaluated for Long-COVID.
Long-COVID symptoms remain incompletely defined due to a large heterogeneity in the populations studied, case definitions, and settings of care. The aim of this study was to assess, in patients accessing care for Long-COVID, the profile of symptoms reported, the possible clustering of symptoms and cases, the functional status compared to pre-infection, and the impact on working activity. ⋯ The findings provide further evidence that Long-COVID is a heterogeneous disease with manifestations that differ by sex, phase of the pandemic and severity of acute disease, and support the possibility that multiple pathways lead to different clinical manifestations.

Multicenter StudyLong-Term Outcomes of COVID-19 and Risk Factors for Prolonged or Persistent COVID-19 in Lymphoma Patients: A Multicenter, Retrospective Cohort Study.
Patients with hematologic malignancies exhibit persistent severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 positivity over long periods after coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) diagnosis. However, the frequency of, risk factors for, and prognosis of prolonged COVID-19 in immunocompromised patients remain unclear. Therefore, we investigated the long-term outcomes of COVID-19 in lymphoma patients and identified the associated factors and impact of prolonged COVID-19 on mortality. ⋯ Prolonged COVID-19 was more frequent in lymphoma patients who received BR treatment followed by rituximab maintenance therapy and associated with unfavorable long-term outcomes and higher 1-year mortality.

Despite widespread application during the coronavirus disease-19 pandemic, severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) detection using patient-performed rapid antigen tests (RATs) is limited, especially regarding the Delta and Omicron variants. Therefore, in this study, we evaluated the performance of RATs in identifying Delta and Omicron infections in self-test settings. In this multicenter clinical performance study conducted in Korea between November 2021 and February 2022, we included participants without prior diagnostic device experience. ⋯ RATs exhibited high positive agreement for Omicron detection but lower rates for Delta, especially among partially vaccinated individuals. This study provides direct evidence that RATs, originally developed for ancestral strains of SARS-CoV-2, effectively detect major variants such as Delta and Omicron in real patient/clinical settings. By confirming variant presence through sequencing, our research offers significant and novel insights into the performance of RATs, particularly in the context of breakthrough infections postvaccination, with precise data on vaccination status and timing obtained from government records.
