Double lumen tube (DLT) and single lumen tube (SLT) are two common endotracheal tube (ETT) types in esophageal cancer surgery. Evidence of the relationship between two ETT types and postoperative pneumonia (PP) remains unclear. We aimed to determine the association between two types of ETT (DLT and SLT) and PP and assess the perioperative risk-related parameters that affect PP. ⋯ During esophagectomy, there is significant association between the type of ETT (DLT or SLT) and PP. Patients who were intubated with a single lumen tube may have a lower rate of postoperative pneumonia than those who were intubated with a double lumen tube. This finding requires verification in follow-up studies.

ReviewRecommendations and considerations for speeding the collapse of the non-ventilated lung during single-lung ventilation in thoracoscopic surgery: a literature review.
Video-assisted thoracoscopic thoracic surgery has the advantages of less physical damage, less postoperative pain, and a rapid recovery. Therefore, it is widely used in the clinic. The quality of nonventilated lung collapse is the key point of thoracoscopic surgery. ⋯ Therefore, it is important to achieve good lung collapse as soon as possible after opening the pleura. Over the past two decades, there have been reports of advances in research on the physiological mechanism of lung collapse and several kinds of techniques for speeding up lung collapse. This review will inform the advances of each technique, make recommendations for reasonable implementation and discuss their controversies and considerations.

Meta AnalysisThoracic Epidural Anesthesia in Cardiac Surgery: A Systematic Review, Meta-Analysis, and Trial Sequential Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials.
Research on fast-track recovery protocols postulates that thoracic epidural anesthesia (TEA) in cardiac surgery contributes to improved postoperative outcomes. However, concerns about TEA's safety hinder its widespread usage. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to assess the benefits and risks of TEA in cardiac surgery. ⋯ TEA reduces ICU and hospital length of stay, and postoperative complications in patients undergoing cardiac surgery with minimal reported complications such as epidural hematomas. These findings favor the use of TEA in cardiac surgery and warrant consideration for use in cardiac surgeries worldwide.
