Randomized Controlled TrialThe effect of the addition of nefopam to intraoperative ketoprofen and acetaminophen on postoperative morphine requirements after laparoscopic cholecystectomy: a randomized controlled trial.
Few studies investigated the use of nefopam for pain control after laparoscopic cholecystectomy in the context of multimodal analgesia. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of adding nefopam to ketoprofen and acetaminophen given before the end of laparoscopic cholecystectomy. ⋯ Adding nefopam to ketoprofen and acetaminophen before the end of laparoscopic cholecystectomy provides a reduction in morphine consumption with superior analgesia in PACU.

The effect of different nerve block strategies on the quality of post-operative recovery in breast cancer patients: A randomized controlled study.
To compare the effects of three types of ultrasound-guided nerve blocks on post-operative recovery quality in patients undergoing modified radical mastectomy for unilateral breast cancer. ⋯ Serratus anterior combined with transverse thoracic muscle plane block may be a safer, easier, and equally effective nerve block strategy than paravertebral block in patients undergoing modified radical mastectomy for unilateral breast cancer.

Cannabis use is increasingly common, and with a growing number of jurisdictions implementing legalization frameworks, it is likely that providers will encounter more patients who use cannabis. Therefore, it is important for providers to understand the implications of cannabis use and practical considerations for the perioperative period. Cannabis affects multiple organ systems and may influence intraoperative anesthesia, as well as postoperative pain management. The effects of cannabis and key anesthetic considerations are reviewed here.

Duration of analgesia after forefoot surgery compared between an ankle and a sciatic nerve block at the popliteal crease: A randomised controlled single-blinded trial.
Forefoot surgery is associated with severe postoperative pain. Ankle and sciatic nerve blocks provide satisfactory postoperative analgesia after forefoot surgery, but little is known on their respective duration of analgesia. ⋯ Compared with the ankle block, the sciatic nerve block at the popliteal crease does not provide a longer duration of analgesia in patients undergoing forefoot surgery in the setting of multimodal analgesia.

Patient Satisfaction With, and Outcomes of, Ultrasound-Guided Regional Anesthesia at a Referral Hospital in Tanzania: A Cross-Sectional Study.
Regional anesthesia techniques are increasingly used in high-income countries (HICs) for both surgical anesthesia and postoperative analgesia. However, regional anesthesia has not been utilized to the same degree in low- to middle-income countries (LMICs) due to a lack of resources and trained personnel. This study evaluates patient satisfaction with, and outcomes of, ultrasound-guided regional anesthesia for extremity surgery at Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Center (KCMC) in the Northeastern zone of Tanzania. ⋯ Our study found that ultrasound-guided regional anesthesia in a resource-constrained setting was effective for extremity surgery and resulted in high patient satisfaction. No complications occurred. The use of ultrasound-guided regional anesthesia shows promise for the safe and effective care of patients undergoing extremity surgery in LMICs.
