Meta-analysis of multiple hematological biomarkers as prognostic predictors of survival in bladder cancer.
Accumulating emerging studies have demonstrated that systemic inflammation can obviously affect tumor occurrence and progression. Nevertheless, the prognostic value of hematological inflammation biomarkers in bladder cancer is controversial. Thus, we conducted a meta-analysis to evaluate the key hematological biomarkers with various clinical outcomes in bladder cancer. ⋯ Our study indicated that the pretreatment hematological biomarkers (neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio, platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio, lymphocyte-to-monocyte ratio, and modified Glasgow prognostic score) were predicative biomarkers of prognosis in bladder cancer patients. Further research is needed to conduct further prospective and multicenter studies to confirm our findings.

To compare the clinical outcomes of endoscopic biliary drainage (EBD) with those of percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainage (PTBD) in patients with resectable hilar cholangiocarcinoma (HCCA) and evaluate the effect of EBD and PTBD on tumor prognosis. ⋯ PTBD is a reasonable choice for PBD, and EBD should only be used as preoperative drainage for HCCA by more experienced physicians. There is a greater need to design prospective randomized controlled studies to obtain high-level evidence-based medicinal proof. It is worth noting that, whether EBD or PTBD, accurate selective biliary drainage should be the trend.

Dietary inflammatory index and cardiovascular risk and mortality: A meta-analysis of cohort studies.
The role of dietary inflammatory index (DII) in cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk and mortality is still controversial. This systematic review and meta-analysis of cohort studies aimed to evaluate the effect of DII, indicating a pro-inflammatory diet, on the incidence and mortality of CVD. ⋯ The present systematic review and meta-analysis indicates that a higher DII score is related to a higher risk of CVD. Further well-designed prospective cohort or trials are warranted to validate our preliminary findings.

Meta AnalysisCarotid intima-media thickness predicts carotid plaque development: Meta-analysis of seven studies involving 9341 participants.
Carotid intima-media thickness and carotid plaque are well-established imaging markers used to capture different stages of the atherosclerotic disease process. We aimed to quantify to which extent carotid intima-media thickness predicts incidence of first-ever carotid plaque. ⋯ In general population studies, elevated baseline carotid intima-media thickness is associated with incidence of carotid plaque in individuals free of carotid plaque at baseline.
