SARS-CoV-2 vaccination in patients with inflammatory bowel disease: systemic review and meta-analysis.
In the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) vaccination has been effective in preventing COVID-19 infections and related mortality. The SARS-CoV-2 vaccination was also recommended by the international society for patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). However, IBD patients were not recruited in prospective randomized clinical vaccine studies. To evaluate the efficacy and safety of SARS-CoV-2 vaccination in IBD patients, we conducted this systemic review and meta-analysis. ⋯ The SARS-CoV-2 vaccine is effective and tolerated in preventing COVID-19 infections in IBD patients. Over 98% of patients had seroconversion after receiving all doses of the SARS-CoV-2 vaccination, and the influence of biologics on vaccination was limited. The SARS-CoV-2 vaccination is recommended for IBD patients.

Antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) is an autoimmune disease that is associated with recurrent pregnancy loss. It is still controversial whether the presence of antiphospholipid antibodies (aPL) in the serum of patients with in vitro fertilization-embryo transfer (IVF-ET) has a negative effect on the outcomes. In view of the discrepancies, a meta-analysis of the published data was performed to explore the relationship of aPL and IVF-ET outcomes. ⋯ The results showed that the presence of positive aPL neither decreased clinical pregnancy rate and live birth rate, nor increased miscarriage rate in women undergoing IVF, which is differed from the opinion of clinical practice. More prospective studies with high quality and larger sample size are needed to evaluate the relationship between positive aPL and outcomes of IVF-ET.

Treatment Outcomes in American Football Players After Intervertebral Disk Herniation: Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.
American football players are at increased risk for many forms of spinal injury. Intervertebral disk herniations are particularly concerning as they are the leading cause of days lost to injury and can have long-term effects on player careers. Disk herniation management plays a major role in the likelihood and success of return-to-play (RTP). ⋯ Disk herniations are a common injury, with surgery potentially improving post-treatment outcomes. The literature suffers from heterogeneous definitions of RTP and varying performance metrics, making it difficult to draw clear conclusions. To better understand the impact of disk herniation and treatment on player health and performance, more studies should be performed prospectively and with standardized metrics.

Epicardial adipose tissue (EAT) surrounds the heart and the coronary vessels. EAT produces pro- and anti-inflammatory cytokines. Several studies have already documented the association of EAT and cardiovascular risk factors as well as coronary artery disease manifestations. Currently computed tomography (CT) is considered the gold standard for measurement of 3-dimensional volume of EAT. In addition, echocardiography might be an easy accessible alternative in particular in an emergency setting. ⋯ Patients with myocardial infarction have more EAT as compared to patients without myocardial infarction independently of the used imaging modality. Further prospective studies are needed to evaluate, how quantification of EAT in clinical routine can improve patients management.
