Geriatric nutritional risk index predicts postoperative prognosis in older patients with hip fracture: A meta-analysis.
Hip fracture is common in elderly individuals and is accompanied by a relatively high mortality rate. However, it is currently difficult to accurately predict postoperative prognosis for older patients with hip fractures. The aim of this meta-analysis was to further determine the prognostic value of the geriatric nutritional risk index (GNRI) for patients who underwent hip fracture surgery. ⋯ The GNRI might serve as a novel prognostic indicator for older patients with hip fractures, and a lower GNRI indicates an increased risk of postoperative mortality and complication rates.

Review Meta AnalysisPreoperative nutrition therapy in people undergoing gastrointestinal surgery.
Poor preoperative nutritional status has been consistently linked to an increase in postoperative complications and worse surgical outcomes. We updated a review first published in 2012. ⋯ We were unable to determine if parenteral nutrition, enteral nutrition, immune-enhancing nutrition or standard oral nutrition supplements have any effect on the clinical outcomes due to very low-certainty evidence. There is some evidence that standard oral nutrition supplements may have no effect on complications. Sensitivity analysis showed standard oral nutrition supplements probably reduced infections in weight-losing or malnourished participants. Further high-quality multicentre research considering the ERAS programme is required and further research in low- and middle-income countries is needed.

Meta AnalysisThe effects of prophylactic use of esketamine on postoperative depression and quality of life: a meta-analysis.
The aim of this systemic review and meta-analysis was to assess the impact of prophylactic use of esketamine on postoperative depression and quality of life in patients. ⋯ Prophylactic use of esketamine during the preoperative and anesthesia period has shown significant benefits in improving postoperative quality of life. It can effectively alleviate postoperative depression, anxiety, and chronic pain, as well as enhance sleep quality.

Assessing the predictive power of the GAP score on mechanical complications: a comprehensive systematic review and meta-analysis.
The prevention of mechanical complications (MC) is a major concern in adult spinal deformity (ASD) correction surgery; thus, the global alignment and proportion (GAP) score was developed to assess MC risk. Numerous studies have clarified the validity of the GAP score, but their contradictory results have prevented researchers from reaching compelling conclusions. This study aimed to analyze the predictive power of the GAP score on MC via a meta-analysis. ⋯ The GAP score offers predictive value for the risk of mechanical complications.

Review Meta Analysis Comparative StudySplenectomy versus splenic preservation in total gastrectomy for gastric cancer: a systematic review and meta-analysis comparing survival benefits and short-term complications.
There is an ongoing debate regarding the comparative merits of splenectomy (SP) and splenic preservation in the surgical management of gastric cancer. This systematic review and meta-analysis aims to shed light on potential differences in survival outcomes and postoperative complications associated with these two procedures. ⋯ Despite the lack of significant differences in certain individual complications and postoperative mortality, the broader pattern of our data suggests that SP is associated with a greater overall frequency of postoperative complications, without providing additional survival benefits compared to splenic preservation. Thus, the routine implementation of SP is not advocated.
