Additional operations were necessary in 67 (41%) of 162 renal allograft patients. General anesthesia was employed in all but 5 patients with no morbidity or mortality. All patients were immunosuppressed and no additional steroids were used before, during, or after the procedure. ⋯ Nine patients (6%) required operations unrelated to transplantation. The data indicate that transplant patients frequently need additional procedures which are directly related to the transplant operation, immunosuppression, or metabolic alterations of their past uremic condition. Mortality is related to the degree of toxicity from the immunosuppressive therapy.

Angel-closure glaucoma following scleral buckling operations.
We have observed 22 patients with angle-closure glaucoma following scleral buckling operations. These patients did not have narrow anterior chamber angles preoperatively, and several were aphakix with surgical iris colobomas. ⋯ A likely pathogenic mechanism is congestion and swelling of the ciliary body due to a temporary interference by the scleral buckle with venous drainage. Episcleral implants accounted for a statistically significant higher incidence of angle-closure glaucoma as compared to intrascleral implants.

Delirium has been defined as a condition of cerebral insufficiency consisting of impairment of cognitive processes, with a characteristic slowing of the electroencephalographic pattern. Present also is a global "clouding" of consciousness, resulting from a potentially reversible impairment of ability to maintain attention. In these states there is usually a simultaneous diminution of the ability to think, perceive, and remember. ⋯ Postoperative delirium is seen more often in patients over 50 years of age, in those who are "vigilant" or overalert, and in those undergoing more complex surgery. Adverse influences in the postoperative period are certain drugs and the psychological stresses engendered by the ICU environment. Appropriate management obtains from attention to the impact of the strange enviornment on the patient.

Case Reports[Relaparotomy in acute hemorrhage after operations on the abdominal organs].
In the paper, an analysis of acute postoperative hemorrhages in 30 patients after operations on the abdomen is presented. In these patients 42 relaparatomies have been performed with lethal issues in 16.7%. The causes of this complication are analysed, and recommendations how to prevent them are given.
