Projection of visual material on postoperative delirium in patients undergoing cardiac surgery: A double blind randomized clinical trial.
Postoperative delirium is a neurobehavioral disorder that can appear after surgery. It is characterized by an altered level of consciousness and impaired cognitive function. The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of visual projection of images of relatives or loved ones in patients undergoing cardiac surgery in the immediate postoperative period, and its influence on the incidence and development of postoperative delirium. ⋯ The projection of visual material reduced the incidence of postoperative delirium in patients undergoing cardiac surgery, although it cannot be established that it is effective as a treatment once the pathology is already established.

Improving Surgical Care and Outcomes in Older Cancer Patients Through Implementation of a Pre-Surgical Toolkit (OPTI-Surg)-Final Results of a Phase III Cluster Randomized Trial (Alliance A231601CD).
To assess the effect of a practice-level preoperative frailty screening and optimization toolkit (OPTI-Surg) on postoperative functional recovery and complications in elderly cancer patients undergoing major surgery. ⋯ Frailty assessment was successfully performed, but the OPTI-Surg intervention did not improve postoperative function nor reduce postoperative complications compared with UC. Future analysis will explore practice-level factors associated with toolkit implementation and the differences between the coaching and noncoaching arms.

Randomized Controlled TrialEffects of oral pregabalin on postoperative sleep of patients after video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery: a randomized double-blind controlled trial.
The aim of this study was to explore the effect of oral pregabalin at varying concentrations on postoperative sleep of patients undergoing video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS), and to identify the optimal dosage. ⋯ Oral administration of 75 mg or 150mg pregabalin for consecutive three days after VATS effectively reduces the incidence of PSD and improves the quality of sleep.

Outcome and Risk of Poststroke Pneumonia in Patients with Acute Ischemic Stroke After Endovascular Thrombectomy: A Post Hoc Analysis of the DIRECT-MT Trial.
In this study, we aimed to investigate the risk factors and impact of poststroke pneumonia (PSP) on mortality and functional outcome in patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS) after endovascular thrombectomy (EVT). ⋯ Nearly one third of patients with AIS and EVT developed PSP. Heart failure, higher creatinine levels, prethrombectomy reperfusion, and National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale at 24 h were associated with PSP in these patients. PSP was associated with poor 90-day functional outcomes in patients with AIS treated with EVT.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyCuffed versus uncuffed endotracheal tubes in neonates undergoing noncardiac surgeries: A randomized controlled trial.
The efficacy and safety of cuffed endotracheal tubes (ETTs) in neonates are still unclear, this study aimed to assess the efficacy of cuffed versus uncuffed ETTs in neonate undergoing noncardiac surgeries. ⋯ In full term neonates undergoing noncardiac surgeries, the use of cuffed ETT was associated with less need to tracheal tube exchange and less incidence of postoperative croup, without increasing the postoperative respiratory complications compared to uncuffed ETT.
