Meta AnalysisEarly reperfusion and clinical outcomes in patients with M2 occlusion: pooled analysis of the PROACT II, IMS, and IMS II studies.
The role of endovascular therapy in patients with acute ischemic stroke and a solitary M2 occlusion remains unclear. Through a pooled analysis of 3 interventional stroke trials, the authors sought to analyze the impact of successful early reperfusion of M2 occlusions on patient outcome. ⋯ A positive correlation between successful early reperfusion and clinical outcome could not be demonstrated for patients with M2 occlusion. Irrespective of reperfusion status, such patients have better outcomes than those with more proximal occlusions, with more than 50% achieving functional independence at 3 months.

Review Meta AnalysisAspiration thrombectomy in patients undergoing primary angioplasty: totality of data to 2013.
We sought to update our meta-analysis on clinical outcomes with aspiration thrombectomy prior to primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PPCI) compared with conventional PPCI alone due to the availability of additional trial data. ⋯ Our meta-analysis including all randomized controlled trials on aspiration thrombectomy to date demonstrates a significant reduction in adverse clinical outcomes including stent thrombosis compared with conventional PCI alone.

Review Meta AnalysisSurrogate and clinical outcomes following ischemic postconditioning during primary percutaneous coronary intervention of ST--segment elevation myocardial infarction: a meta-analysis of 15 randomized trials.
To conduct a meta-analysis on surrogate and clinical outcomes with myocardial ischemic postconditioning (IPoC) following revascularization with primary percutaneous intervention (PPCI) for ST-segment myocardial infarction (STEMI) compared with PPCI alone. ⋯ IPoC following PPCI is not associated with improvements in surrogate or clinical outcomes at 5 months as compared with PPCI alone. Our findings indicate no role for IPoC in the routine management of patients with STEMI.

Review Meta Analysis Comparative StudyBasic Data From 176 Studies on the Immediate Outcome After Aortic Valve Replacement With or Without Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery.
The aim of this study was to summarize the immediate outcome after aortic valve replacement (AVR) with or without coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). ⋯ Isolated AVR is associated with low mortality and morbidity. Coronary artery disease requiring concomitant CABG increases the operative mortality. Patients requiring AVR and CABG should be the main target of less-invasive treatment strategies.

Review Meta AnalysisEffects of simulation-based training in gastrointestinal endoscopy: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Simulation-based training (SBT) in gastrointestinal endoscopy has been increasingly adopted by gastroenterology fellowship programs. However, the effectiveness of SBT in enhancing trainee skills remains unclear. We performed a systematic review with a meta-analysis of published literature on SBT in gastrointestinal endoscopy. ⋯ Simulation-based education in gastrointestinal endoscopy is associated with improved performance in a test setting and in clinical practice, and improved patient outcomes compared with no intervention. Comparative effectiveness studies of different simulation modalities are limited.
