Evaluate the long-term outcomes of pleurectomy decortication, systemic chemotherapy and prophylactic radiotherapy in pleural mesothelioma (PM). ⋯ P/D is a safe and well-tolerated procedure resulting in no mortality and acceptable morbidity. Most patients can receive radiotherapy and systemic chemotherapy in due time and receive further therapies on relapse, resulting in prolonged survival mainly in those with early-stage epithelioid mesothelioma.

Blood Glucose Range for Hyperglycemic PICU Children With Primary Neurologic Diagnoses: Analysis of the Heart and Lung Failure-Pediatric Insulin Titration Trial.
To compare two blood glucose (BG) ranges in critically ill children with and without primary neurologic diagnoses in the Heart and Lung Failure-Pediatric Insulin Titration trial (HALF-PINT; ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier NCT01565941). ⋯ In this non-prespecified analysis of the HALF-PINT trial data, lower-BG targeting in hyperglycemic critically ill children with primary neurologic diagnoses was associated with unfavorable outcomes, while such BG targeting in those with non-neurologic diagnoses was not associated with adverse outcomes.

To test the hypothesis that peripheral nerve block (PNB) use might be associated with improved perioperative outcomes following major surgery. ⋯ Use of PNB was associated with shortened length of hospital stay and reduced major complications in older patients after major non-cardiac thoracic and abdominal surgery, possibly due to improved analgesia.

A novel scoring system for better management of small bowel obstruction.
Due to the lack of a comprehensive evaluation of the prognosis of small bowel obstruction (SBO), recent clinical strategies have remained subjective and controversial. The recognition of pretreatment risk factors and tailored treatment could improve SBO outcomes. ⋯ A novel TSC outcome model and RS system was constructed to comprehensively reflect the tailored treatment, surgical events and posttreatment recovery for SBO patients.

Continuous dialysis in hemodynamically stable patients with acute kidney injury (AKI) may impact outcomes differently than intermittent dialysis. We evaluated differences in patient and kidney outcomes between the two modalities. ⋯ Compared with IHD, CKRT did not lower mortality at 30 days, which is similar to that of randomized trials; however, it was associated with better complete kidney recovery, which was reported in observational studies.
