The fate of suboptimal anastomosis after colon resection: An experimental study.
The fate of suboptimal anastomosis is unknown and early detection of anastomotic leakage after colon resection is crucial for the proper management of patients. ⋯ Anastomotic leakage with suboptimal anastomosis after colon resection is high and the early detection is possible by running PCR on peritoneal samples as early as 72 hours.

NBS LabChip G2-3 is a novel, ultrafast, chip-type portable real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) system. We evaluated the clinical usefulness of this system in detecting pulmonary TB and assessed its diagnostic performance compared with a conventional tube-type PCR system. ⋯ The NBS LabChip G2-3 system has potential as an ultrafast, cost-effective diagnostic tool for pulmonary TB with high sensitivity and specificity.

A short cut review was carried out to establish the diagnostic utility of Emergency Physician performed ultrasound in confirming or refuting the diagnosis of deep vein thrombosis compared with a radiology scan. A systematic review incorporating 16 studies and two studies published subsequently were found to be relevant to the question. The clinical bottom line was that some studies demonstrated high sensitivity and specificity compared with the reference standard but this finding was not universal.

Bowel and mesenteric injury in blunt trauma: Diagnostic efficiency and importance of experience in using multidetector computed tomography.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the diagnostic efficiency of multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) in the detection of blunt bowel and mesenteric injuries (BBMI), and the role of different experience levels in using MDCT. ⋯ MDCT displays BBMI with high sensitivity and specificity, and can predict the need for surgery. Experience in radiology is an important factor for appropriate interpretation of the MDCT findings.

Validation and reclassification of MGAP and GAP in hospital settings using data from the Trauma Audit and Research Network.
Recently, two simple clinical scores were published to predict survival in trauma patients. Both scores may successfully guide major trauma triage, but neither has been independently validated in a hospital setting. ⋯ Prognostic study, level II.
