Utility of intracranial pressure monitoring in patients with traumatic brain injuries: a propensity score matching analysis of TQIP data.
Intracranial pressure monitoring (ICPM) is central to traumatic brain injury (TBI) management, but its utility is controversial. ⋯ ICPM (+) is associated with a survival benefit without an increase in complications in patents aged < 18 years. In patients aged ≥ 18 years, ICPM (+) is associated with more complications and longer LOS without a survival benefit.

Burnout is a growing problem among medical professionals, reaching a crisis proportion. It is defined by emotional exhaustion, cynicism, and career dissatisfaction and is triggered by a mismatch between the values of the person and the demands of the workplace. Burnout has not previously been examined thoroughly in the Neurocritical Care Society (NCS). The purpose of this study is to assess the prevalence, contributing factors, and potential interventions to reduce burnout within the NCS. ⋯ Our study is the first to characterize burnout among a cross-section of physicians, pharmacists, nurses, and other practitioners in the NCS. A call to action and a genuine commitment by the hospital, organizational, local, and federal governmental leaders and society as a whole is essential to advocate for interventions to ameliorate burnout and care for our health care professionals.

The Long-Term Use of Diagnostic Subdural Electroencephalogram Electrodes and Subdural Hematoma: A Prospective Cohort Study.
Seizures and status epilepticus (SE) are frequent complications of acute subdural hematoma (aSDH) associated with increased morbidity and mortality. Therefore, we aimed to evaluate whether invasive subdural electroencephalogram recording leads to earlier seizure detection and treatment initiation in patients with aSDH. ⋯ Invasive subdural electroencephalogram monitoring is valuable and safe for early seizure/SE detection and treatment and might improve outcomes in the neurocritical care of patients with aSDH.
