The Burns Specific Health Scale - Brief (BSHS-B) was analyzed to investigate the longitudinal impact of burns on sexuality and body image. Four sub-domains of the BSHS-B domains were of particular interest: sexuality, body image, affect and relationships, and as such were investigated for correlation between all of the sub-scales of the BSHS-B. ⋯ Burn survivors experience sexuality, body image and relationship changes following a burn, which may affect their quality of life (QoL) over time. Rehabilitation services need to be aware of these issues and create rehabilitation programs that specifically and meaningfully address these issues for burn survivors.

Multicenter Study
Physician and nursing perceptions concerning interprofessional communication and collaboration.
The aim of the study was to investigate the physician and nursing perceptions regarding communication and collaboration as well as the factors that may influence these activities. A self-administered questionnaire survey was sent to a random sample of 93 physicians and 197 nurses based in two large public hospitals in Athens, Greece. Descriptive statistics, t-test and chi square test were performed with the SPSS 19.0 statistical package. ⋯ Therefore, in everyday practice, both nurses and physicians should acknowledge the importance of their effective communication and they should develop and implement interprofessional teamwork interventions to improve collaboration. Moreover, nurses have to constantly consolidate their role in the decision process and patients' care, especially in countries with limited interprofessional collaboration culture. In addition, factors that improve physicians' attitudes toward collaboration and effective communication should be further explored.

To discuss the meaning of compassionate care as it applies to staff, patients and families in health and social care settings, its application to practice and how organizational infrastructures affect the delivery of care. ⋯ This article challenges some of the beliefs and values that underpin the meaning of compassionate care and its application to practice. It brings greater clarity to the meaning of compassion, which could be used to form the basis of shared visions of caring, both strategic and operational, across organizations.

The aim of the study was to examine staff and family members' perceptions of each other's roles and responsibilities in the Australian residential aged care setting. Data was collected by interview and focus group from 27 staff and 14 family members at five residential aged care facilities in the state of Victoria, Australia. ⋯ Findings suggest that further efforts to establish and sustain good relationships with families are required by facilities. Characteristics, roles, and expectations of staff and family that can both promote and hinder the formation of constructive staff-family relationships are discussed.

Prognostic significance of preoperative fibrinogen in patients with colon cancer.
To investigate the prognostic significance of preoperative fibrinogen levels in colon cancer patients. ⋯ Preoperative fibrinogen levels can serve as an independent prognostic marker to evaluate patient response to colon cancer treatment.
