Post-intensive care syndrome (PICS) describes new or worsening physical, cognitive, or mental impairments in a patient following critical illness or intensive care. The COVID-19 pandemic will likely result in many more patients with PICS and its associated health and economic challenges. Screening and assessment tools done during hospitalization, at discharge, and post discharge should be utilized to facilitate services and strategies to improve PICS outcomes for patient and their families.

Health-Status Outcomes with Invasive or Conservative Care in Coronary Disease.
In the ISCHEMIA trial, an invasive strategy with angiographic assessment and revascularization did not reduce clinical events among patients with stable ischemic heart disease and moderate or severe ischemia. A secondary objective of the trial was to assess angina-related health status among these patients. ⋯ In the overall trial population with moderate or severe ischemia, which included 35% of participants without angina at baseline, patients randomly assigned to the invasive strategy had greater improvement in angina-related health status than those assigned to the conservative strategy. The modest mean differences favoring the invasive strategy in the overall group reflected minimal differences among asymptomatic patients and larger differences among patients who had had angina at baseline. (Funded by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute and others; ISCHEMIA ClinicalTrials.gov number, NCT01471522.).

To develop a short form (SF) of the 24-item Neurogenic Bladder Symptom Score (NBSS). ⋯ The total score of the NBSS-SF has appropriate validity, reliability, and could be used instead of the full NBSS to minimize the assessment burden. The full NBSS may be better suited if the primary focus of the study is on neurogenic bladder symptoms, or if individual NBSS domains are of interest.

Randomized Controlled Trial Clinical Trial Pragmatic Clinical TrialDementia Care Mapping™ to reduce agitation in care home residents with dementia: the EPIC cluster RCT.
The quality of care for people with dementia in care homes is of concern. Interventions that can improve care outcomes are required. ⋯ Alternative models of DCM implementation should be considered that do not rely solely on leadership by care home staff.

Age, symptoms, and functional outcome after mild traumatic brain injury.
Previous older adult studies have examined outcome from moderate-to-severe traumatic brain injury (TBI), but fewer have focused on the effects of milder brain injuries. This study examined age-related differences in symptom reporting and whether symptoms are differentially related to functional outcome based on age. ⋯ Older adults tended to report fewer symptoms, but symptoms had a roughly equivalent relationship with declines in functioning across age groups. A large percentage of older adults in this study had pre-injury dementia or neurological disease that contributed to missing data on the 1-week outcome measures. The results provide insight into the impact of mild spectrum TBI on older adults compared to younger patients.
