Comparative StudyA Comparison of Nonopioid and Opioid Oral Analgesia Following Pediatric Palatoplasty.
This article evaluates postoperative analgesia in pediatric palatoplasty patients using nonopioid oral medications. ⋯ Oral acetaminophen and ibuprofen alone may provide similar analgesia to traditional regimens with reduced risks following pediatric palatoplasty.

The effect of tramadol plus paracetamol on consumption of morphine after coronary artery bypass grafting.
To compare the effects of oral tramadol+paracetamol combination on morphine consumption following coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) in the patient-controlled analgesia (PCA) protocol. ⋯ Tramadol+paracetamol combination along with PCA morphine improves analgesia and reduces morphine requirement up to 50% after CABG, compared with morphine PCA alone.

Consequences of not relieving negative internal pressure of a medication vial: A survey and simulation study.
The glass vial of acetaminophen as an intravenous preparation (Acelio®, Terumo, Japan) has a strong internal negative pressure. The aim of our study was to determine if this negative pressure could result in medication administration errors if not released prior to connecting to the IV set. ⋯ A considerable number of anesthesiologists experienced consequences caused by the negative pressure inside the Acelio® vial. This can also cause aspiration of the contents of the syringe pump.

Randomized Controlled TrialEfficacy of paracetamol, diclofenac and advice for acute low back pain in general practice: design of a randomized controlled trial (PACE Plus).
Low back pain is common and associated with a considerable burden to patients and society. There is uncertainty regarding the relative benefit of paracetamol and diclofenac and regarding the additional effect of pain medication compared with advice only in patients with acute low back pain. This trial will assess the effectiveness of paracetamol, diclofenac and placebo for acute low back pain over a period of 4 weeks. Furthermore, this trial will assess the additional effectiveness of paracetamol, diclofenac and placebo compared with advice only for acute low back pain over a period of 4 weeks. ⋯ This paper presents the design of the PACE Plus trial: a multi-center, placebo-blinded, superiority randomized controlled trial in primary care that will assess the effectiveness of advice only, paracetamol, diclofenac and placebo for acute low back pain.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyReduced anaesthetic requirements and postoperative analgesics in patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy: premedication with intravenous paracetamol versus ketorolac, a double blind and randomised clinical trial.
To compare the effects of premedication with intravenous paracetamol versus ketorolac, in decreasing intraoperative anaesthetic and postoperative opioid analgesics requirements in patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy. ⋯ Paracetamol 1g IV given preoperatively decreased anaesthetic requirements and the need for postoperative analgesics similar to the preoperative administration of ketorolac 30mg IV.
