Effects of acetaminophen and mannitol on crush injuries in rats: An experimental study.
The present objective was to evaluate effects of acetaminophen and mannitol on renal function and histopathology in crush injuries. ⋯ In crush injuries, acetaminophen improves histopathological renal damage better than mannitol. When used in conjunction with mannitol, the toxic effect of acetaminophen on the liver is decreased.

A Randomized Trial Comparing the Safety and Efficacy of Intravenous Ibuprofen versus Ibuprofen and Acetaminophen in Knee or Hip Arthroplasty.
All surgical procedures are associated with a degree of pain. The experience of uncontrolled post-operative pain can have significant implications on health care costs. Recent studies have demonstrated that intravenous (IV) ibuprofen is an effective, safe, well-tolerated analgesic when administered for both abdominal hysterectomy and orthopedic surgery. The use of ibuprofen leads to a reduction in pain severity at rest and with movement and also decreases narcotic consumption. IV acetaminophen has also been shown to be effective in alleviating pain for surgical procedures. Given the established safety and efficacy of IV ibuprofen and IV acetaminophen for perioperative pain, we were interested in determining if any potential synergies are afforded by the simultaneous administration of both medications in orthopedic surgery patients. ⋯ IV ibuprofen combined with IV acetaminophen demonstrated additional benefit in terms of improved pain scores on post-operative day 3 only, fewer potential adverse events related to opioid use, and decreased use of opioids when compared to IV ibuprofen alone.

Pooled Post Hoc Analysis of Population Pharmacokinetics of Oxycodone and Acetaminophen Following Multiple Oral Doses of Biphasic Immediate-Release/Extended-Release Oxycodone/Acetaminophen Tablets.
To examine whether biphasic immediate-release (IR)/extended-release (ER) oxycodone (OC)/acetaminophen (APAP) 7.5/325-mg tablets have clinically relevant variability in population pharmacokinetics (PK). ⋯ Dose adjustments of < 50% are not clinically relevant for IR/ER OC/APAP 7.5/325-mg tablets considering the approved dose of 1 to 2 tablets every 8 to 12 hours; thus, adjustment may be necessary for large deviations from normal body weight but not for sex.

[The effectiveness of preemptive analgesic techniques on postoperative analgesia in patients undergoing open septorhinoplasty].
A comparison was made of effects of preincisional intravenous (IV) dexketoprofen trometamol and acetaminophen on postoperative pain, analgesic requirement, hemodynamic parameters, postoperative tramadol consumption, and patient satisfaction in patients undergoing elective septorhinoplasty. ⋯ It was observed that both preemptive IV dexketoprofen trometamol and acetaminophen were effective for postoperative analgesia in early postoperative period in elective septorhinoplasty under general anesthesia; however, preemptive dexketoprofen trometamol was more effective than acetaminophen for postoperative analgesia.

The main tasks of postoperative care are postoperative pain and complications control which play an important role in accelerating the recovery of patient's general condition. ⋯ Results of this study indicates a significant effect of concomitant use of intravenous acetaminophen and diclofenac suppository on pain severity reduction and reducing the need for repeated doses of narcotics and prolonging the postoperative analgesia.
