Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Comparative StudyOnset of analgesia with sodium ibuprofen, ibuprofen acid incorporating poloxamer and acetaminophen--a single-dose, double-blind, placebo-controlled study in patients with post-operative dental pain.
To compare the onset of action and efficacy of sodium ibuprofen (ibuprofen sodium dihydrate) and ibuprofen acid incorporating poloxamer (ibuprofen/poloxamer) with that of acetaminophen and placebo in patients with post-operative dental pain. ⋯ Compared with acetaminophen, sodium ibuprofen was associated with significantly greater analgesic efficacy, pain relief in a greater proportion of patients and greater patient satisfaction.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Comparative StudyA 4-week randomized study of acetaminophen extended-release vs rofecoxib in knee osteoarthritis.
To compare the safety and efficacy of acetaminophen extended-release (APAP ER) with rofecoxib for the management of pain associated with knee osteoarthritis (OA). ⋯ APAP ER 3900 mg daily was noninferior to rofecoxib 12.5mg daily, but noninferiority was not established to rofecoxib 25mg daily. APAP ER was well tolerated and no safety issues were identified. Based on the results of this study, APAP ER 3900 mg daily is an alternative to nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as rofecoxib, in treating pain associated with knee OA.

Multicenter StudyEfficacy and tolerability of ready-to-use intravenous paracetamol solution as monotherapy or as an adjunct analgesic therapy for postoperative pain in patients undergoing elective ambulatory surgery: open, prospective study.
Paracetamol (acetaminophen) is one of the most widely used drugs for analgesia. We aimed to investigate the use of a ready-to-use intravenous (i.v.) paracetamol 1 g solution (Perfalgan) as monotherapy or as adjunct therapy in patients undergoing elective ambulatory surgery. ⋯ Ready-to-use i.v. paracetamol, used as monotherapy or in combination with other analgesics, may be effective for alleviating postoperative pain and well tolerated in patients undergoing ambulatory surgery.

Adequacy assessment of oxycodone/paracetamol (acetaminophen) in multimodal chronic pain : a prospective observational study.
Multimodal pain is comprised of nociceptive/inflammatory and neuropathic components. Pharmacological pain therapies from different classes provide pain relief using different mechanistic actions; often a combination of such therapies provides more effective pain relief than monotherapy. To assess whether pain management is adequate requires a comprehensive pain scoring system. ⋯ The PMI was an effective tool for assessment of pain management efficacy. Oxycodone/paracetamol improved pain symptoms in the majority of compliant patients. In patients with neuropathic pain, rescue therapy with oxycodone/paracetamol showed a lesser, but significant, improvement of pain symptoms.

Efficacy and tolerability of coadministration of rizatriptan and acetaminophen vs rizatriptan or acetaminophen alone for acute migraine treatment.
To evaluate the efficacy and tolerability of coadministration of rizatriptan and acetaminophen in the acute treatment of migraine. ⋯ Rizatriptan coadministered with acetaminophen achieved 2 of the 3 primary hypotheses, proving superior to both acetaminophen and placebo for 2-h pain relief, but failing to achieve superiority to rizatriptan alone. RA was as well tolerated as each of the individual agents.
