Recognized risk factors for acetaminophen overdose include alcohol, opioids, and mood disorders. The aim of this study is to assess additional risk factors for acetaminophen overdose evaluated in the emergency department (ED). ⋯ In addition to previously recognized risks, our study demonstrated that cannabis use and hematologic/oncologic comorbidities were more common among acetaminophen-overdose ED visits. These new findings are concerning because of rapid legalization of cannabis and the increasing incidence of cancer worldwide. Additional investigation into these risks should be a priority for clinicians, policymakers, and researchers.

Acetaminophen for Prevention and Treatment of Organ Dysfunction in Critically Ill Patients With Sepsis: The ASTER Randomized Clinical Trial.
Acetaminophen (paracetamol) has many pharmacological effects that might be beneficial in sepsis, including inhibition of cell-free hemoglobin-induced oxidation of lipids and other substrates. ⋯ Intravenous acetaminophen was safe but did not significantly improve days alive and free of organ support in critically ill sepsis patients.

Intranasal Tapentadol Vs Intravenous Paracetamol for Postoperative Analgesia in Lower Limb Orthopaedic Surgeries Under Spinal Anaesthesia: A Single Blind RCT.
We aimed to compare the analgesic effectiveness of intranasal tapentadol nasal spray 44.5 mg and intravenous (IV) paracetamol 1 gm during the postoperative period in patients undergoing lower limb orthopedic surgeries under spinal anesthesia. ⋯ The results of the present study suggests that intranasal tapentadol results in a greater reduction of postoperative pain compared with IV paracetamol in lower limb orthopedic surgeries. The ease of administration of tapentadol may make it a preferred option over IV paracetamol in such surgeries.
