Oral paracetamol premedication effect on maternal pain in amniocentesis: a randomised double blind placebo-controlled trial.
The objective of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of oral paracetamol premedication in decreasing the maternal pain during amniocentesis. A randomised double blind placebo-controlled trial was conducted. Two hundred and forty participants were equally allocated into two groups (one paracetamol and one placebo). ⋯ What the results of this study add? Paracetamol is effective in decreasing the maternal pain during and after amniocentesis. What the implications are of these findings for clinical practice and/or further research? Pregnant women who need amniocentesis should be counselled that paracetamol could be administered for relieving the pain that may occur from the procedure. However, further study should be conducted to find the optimal dosage of paracetamol for relieving the pain in amniocentesis along with a large RCT with a long-term follow-up to evaluate the side effects of paracetamol.

Observational StudyIntravenous Acetaminophen Does Not Reduce Inpatient Opioid Prescription or Opioid-Related Adverse Events Among Patients Undergoing Spine Surgery.
Having entered the US market relatively recently, the perioperative role of intravenous acetaminophen (ivAPAP) remains to be established for several surgeries. Using national data, we therefore assessed current utilization and whether it reduces inpatient opioid prescription and opioid-related side effects in a procedure with relatively high opioid utilization. ⋯ We could not show that perioperative ivAPAP reduces inpatient opioid prescription with subsequent reduced odds for adverse outcomes. It remains to be determined if and under what circumstances ivAPAP has a meaningful clinical role in everyday practice.

Acetaminophen and Febrile Seizure Recurrences During the Same Fever Episode.
To confirm the safety of using acetaminophen for febrile seizures (FSs) and to assess its efficacy in preventing FS recurrence during the same fever episode. ⋯ Acetaminophen is a safe antipyretic against FSs and has the potential to prevent FS recurrence during the same fever episode.

Observational StudyPostoperative Pain and Opioid Analgesic Requirements After Orthognathic Surgery.
The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of individual characteristics, such as age, gender, and type of surgery, on postoperative pain intensity and opioid analgesic consumption after orthognathic surgery. ⋯ Based on these study results, there appears to be a trend for increased opioid analgesic requirement in women and younger patients during the immediate postoperative period after orthognathic surgery.
