Randomized Controlled TrialEffect of Tulobuterol Patch Versus Placebo on the Occurrence of Respiratory Adverse Events in Children Undergoing Tonsillectomies: A Randomized Controlled Trial.
Perioperative respiratory adverse events are common in children. We aimed to evaluate the effect of the transdermal β-2 agonist, tulobuterol, compared with that of placebo on the incidence of perioperative respiratory adverse events in pediatric patients undergoing tonsillectomy. ⋯ In preschool children undergoing tonsillectomy, the preoperative application of a tulobuterol patch could decrease the occurrence of perioperative respiratory adverse events. Further studies are needed to elucidate the effect of the tulobuterol patch in a broad spectrum of pediatric anesthesia.

Indobufen versus aspirin in patients with acute ischaemic stroke in China (INSURE): a randomised, double-blind, double-dummy, active control, non-inferiority trial.
Aspirin is recommended for secondary stroke prevention in patients with moderate-to-severe ischaemic stroke but can lead to gastrointestinal intolerance and bleeding. Indobufen is used as an alternative antiplatelet agent in some countries, despite an absence of large-scale clinical trials for this indication. We tested the hypothesis that indobufen is non-inferior to aspirin in reducing the risk of new stroke at 90 days in patients with moderate-to-severe ischaemic stroke. ⋯ For the Chinese translation of the abstract see Supplementary Materials section.

Randomized Controlled TrialComparison of ultrasound-guided erector spinae plane block and thoracic paravertebral block for postoperative analgesia after laparoscopic nephrectomy: a randomized controlled non-inferiority clinical trial.
Thoracic paravertebral block offers effective analgesia after laparoscopic nephrectomy but has potential severe complication risks. Erector spinae plane block has been described for analgesia after abdominal surgery. However, there are no prospective randomized trials determining if ultrasound-guided erector spinae plane block is non-inferior to thoracic paravertebral block in terms of analgesia after abdominal surgeries including laparoscopic nephrectomy. ⋯ This study demonstrates that erector spinae plane block provides non-inferior analgesia for pain at rest within 24 postoperative hours in comparison to thoracic paravertebral block for laparoscopic nephrectomy.

The Utility of a Novel, Combined Biofeedback-Virtual Reality Device as Add-on Treatment for Chronic Migraine: A Randomized Pilot Study.
To determine if the frequent use of a combined biofeedback-virtual reality device improves headache-related outcomes in chronic migraine. ⋯ Frequent use of a portable biofeedback-virtual reality device was associated with decreases in the frequency of acute analgesic use and in depression in individuals with chronic migraine. This platform holds promise as an add-on treatment for chronic migraine, especially for individuals aiming to decrease acute analgesic use or interested in nonmedication approaches.

The Effect of a Non-Pharmacological Multicomponent Pain Management Program on Pain Intensity and Quality of Life in Community-Dwelling Elderly Men With Chronic Musculoskeletal Pain.
Improving the level of care for the elderly with musculoskeletal pain requires pharmacological and non-pharmacological pain control methods. This study aimed to investigate the effect of a non-pharmacological pain management intervention on pain intensity and quality of life in community-dwelling older men with musculoskeletal pain who were referred to comprehensive healthcare centers in the city of Ilam, Iran. ⋯ A six-week physical activity and education program for community-dwelling older men with chronic musculoskeletal pain could improve quality of life and decrease pain intensity after a one-month follow-up compared with usual care. Therefore, it seems necessary to consider pain management programs in the elderly care program and familiarize health care professionals with these pain control methods.
