Multicenter Study
Developing a scale to measure family dynamics related to long-term care, and testing that scale in a multicenter cross-sectional study.
As Japan's population ages, more frail elderly people are cared for by members of their family. The dynamics within such families are difficult to study, in part because they are difficult to quantify. We developed a scale for assessing family dynamics related to long-term care. Here we report on the development of that scale, and we present the results of reliability testing and validation testing. ⋯ We developed a scale that enables physicians to assess the dynamics of families with a patient and a family caregiver. The scale's scores are reliable and the results of validation testing were generally good. This scale holds promise as a tool both for research and for primary-care practice.

Multicenter Study Observational StudyAnalysis of burden in caregivers of people with Alzheimer's disease using self-report and supervision hours.
This study aimed to describe the baseline characteristics of informal carers of community-living Alzheimer's disease (AD) patients by AD severity group and to identify factors associated with two measures of caregiver burden. ⋯ Our results show that subjective caregiver burden and caregiver time are influenced by different factors, reinforcing the need to consider both aspects of caregiving when trying to minimize the burden of AD. However, interventions that minimize caregiver distress and improve patient functioning may impact on both subjective and objective burden.

Efficacy of occupational therapy for patients with Parkinson's disease: a randomised controlled trial.
There is insufficient evidence to support use of occupational therapy interventions for patients with Parkinson's disease. We aimed to assess the efficacy of occupational therapy in improving daily activities of patients with Parkinson's disease. ⋯ Prinses Beatrix Spierfonds and Parkinson Vereniging.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study
Health literacy and injury prevention behaviors among caregivers of infants.
Unintentional injury is a leading cause of infant mortality. ⋯ Non-adherence to injury prevention guidelines was common. Low caregiver health literacy was significantly associated with some injury prevention behaviors. Future interventions should consider the role of health literacy in promoting injury prevention.

Introducing structured caregiver training in stroke care: findings from the TRACS process evaluation study.
To evaluate the process of implementation of the modified London Stroke Carers Training Course (LSCTC) in the Training Caregivers After Stroke (TRACS) cluster randomised trial and contribute to the interpretation of the TRACS trial results. The LSCTC was a structured competency-based training programme designed to help develop the knowledge and skills (eg, patient handling or transfer skills) essential for the day-to-day management of disabled survivors of stroke. The LSCTC comprised 14 components, 6 were mandatory (and delivered to all) and 8 non-mandatory, to be delivered based on individual assessment of caregiver need. ⋯ ISRCTN49208824.
