Multicenter Study Observational StudyCriteria deemed important by the relatives for designating a reference person for patients hospitalized in ICU.
We investigated the criteria that patients' relatives deem important for choosing, among themselves, the person best qualified to interact with the caregiving staff. ⋯ This study identifies the attributes considered by relatives to be most important for designating, among themselves, a reference person for a patient hospitalized in the ICU.

Multicenter StudyImproving medication safety in the Intensive Care by identifying relevant drug-drug interactions - Results of a multicenter Delphi study.
Drug-drug interactions (DDIs) may cause adverse outcomes in patients admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Computerized decision support systems (CDSSs) may help prevent DDIs by timely showing relevant warning alerts, but knowledge on which DDIs are clinically relevant in the ICU setting is limited. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to identify DDIs relevant for the ICU. ⋯ A list of clinically relevant DDIs for the ICU setting was established on a national level. The clinical value of CDSSs for medication safety could be improved by focusing on the identified clinically relevant DDIs, thereby avoiding alert fatigue.

Multicenter Study Observational StudyProphylactic use of platelets in critically ill patients with thrombocytopaenia: A retrospective two-centre observational study.
We report the use and effect of prophylactic platelet transfusions in critically ill thrombocytopaenic patients, comparing patients with or without bone marrow failure as a cause of thrombocytopaenia. ⋯ Platelet transfusions were given at a higher median platelet count than suggested by guidelines. Patients with bone marrow failure were transfused at a lower threshold and experienced a smaller increment in platelet count when compared to patients without marrow failure.

Multicenter StudyThe first seven years of nationally organized helicopter emergency medical services in Finland - the data from quality registry.
Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS) play an important role in prehospital care of the critically ill. Differences in funding, crew composition, dispatch criteria and mission profile make comparison between systems challenging. Several systems incorporate databases for quality control, performance evaluation and scientific purposes. FinnHEMS database was incorporated for such purposes following the national organization of HEMS in Finland 2012. The aims of this study are to describe information recorded in the database, data collection, and operational characteristics of Finnish HEMS during 2012-2018. ⋯ Gathering detailed and comprehensive data nationally on all HEMS missions is feasible. A national database provides valuable insights into where the operation of HEMS could be improved. We observed a high number of cancelled or denied missions and a low percentage of patients transported by helicopter. The medical problem of encountered patients also differs from comparable systems.

Patients with COVID-19 in 19 ICUs in Wuhan, China: a cross-sectional study.
A COVID-19 outbreak started in Wuhan, China, last December and now has become a global pandemic. The clinical information in caring of critically ill patients with COVID-19 needs to be shared timely, especially under the situations that there is still a largely ongoing spread of COVID-19 in many countries. ⋯ Critically ill patients with COVID-19 are associated with a higher risk of severe complications and need to receive an intensive level of treatments. COVID-19 poses a great strain on critical care resources in hospitals.
