Urinalysis in Suspected Child Abuse Evaluation in the Emergency Department.
Intra-abdominal injury (IAI) is the second leading cause of mortality in abused children. It is challenging to identify in young patients due to their limited verbal skills, delayed symptoms, less muscular abdominal wall, and limited bruising. ⋯ No subjects were diagnosed with abdominal trauma based on urinalysis during evaluation in the emergency department who would not have been identified by other standard testing. In addition, patients' disposition was delayed while waiting for urinalysis.

Impact of a Strategy for Improving Early Management of Acute Pain in the Pediatric Emergency Department.
The objective of this study was to measure the impact of an intervention on pain treatment in a pediatric emergency department (ED). The application of interventions to improve pain management in DE has demonstrated diverse effects so far, most of them successful. ⋯ The application strategies to enhance early pain treatment in the ED can improve analgesia administration. Training strategies aimed at healthcare personnel working in the ED can change the way they work and achieve clear benefits for the patient. The treatment of pain in the ED should begin as soon as possible, and in this objective, the involvement of the nursing staff is a priority, because they are the professional who has the best opportunity for the detection and treatment of pain from the moment of triage.

Epidemiology of Non-Emergent Cancer-Related Emergency Department Visits in Korea between 2016 and 2020.
As people living with cancer increase in the aging society, cancer-related emergency department (ED) visits are also increasing. This study aimed to investigate the epidemiologic characteristics of non-emergent cancer-related ED visits using a nationwide ED database. ⋯ Approximately 20% of cancer-related ED visits may be potentially non-emergent. A significant number of non-emergent patients visited the ED due to cancer-related symptoms. To improve the quality of care for people living with cancer, the expansion of supportive care resources besides of ED, including active symptom control, is necessary.

Chest radiographs (CXRs) are still of crucial importance in primary diagnostics, but their interpretation poses difficulties at times. ⋯ We found that in an emergency unit setting without 24/7 radiology coverage, the presented AI solution features an excellent clinical support tool to nonradiologists, similar to a second reader, and allows for a more accurate primary diagnosis and thus earlier therapy initiation.

Practice Transformation in the Transforming Clinical Practice Initiative and Emergency Department Use.
To provide insight on how ambulatory care practices can reduce emergency department (ED) visits, we studied changes in Medicare ED visits for primary and specialty care practices in the Transforming Clinical Practice Initiative. We compared practices that transformed more vs less during the 6-year period ending in 2021 (3,773 practices). Using data from a practice transformation assessment tool completed at multiple intervals, we found improvement in the transformation score was associated with reduced ED visits by 6% and 4% for primary and specialty care practices, respectively, 3 to 4 years after first assessment. Transformation in 5 of 8 domains contributed to reduced ED visits.
