Comparison of supraclavicular block with infraclavicular block for distal arm surgeries: A meta-analysis of randomized controlled studies.
Supraclavicular and infraclavicular nerve block are commonly used for the analgesia of distal arm surgeries, and this meta-analysis aims to compare their analgesic efficacy for distal arm surgeries. ⋯ Infraclavicular nerve block may be superior to supraclavicular nerve block for the analgesia of distal arm surgeries but needs increased block performance time.

Prevalence of chronic pain after severe lower limb injury (SLLI): A systematic review and meta-analysis.
Globally, severe lower limb injuries (SLLIs) are the predominant cause of long-term injury related disability and poor functional outcomes. Chronic pain is a major source of this morbidity, but the magnitude of the contribution is not clearly understood. The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to determine the prevalence of chronic pain following SLLIs in civilian and military patients. ⋯ Most people who sustain a SLLI will suffer from chronic pain. Healthcare systems must continue to research interventions that can reduce the incidence and severity of long-term pain and ensure adequate resources are allocated for this common and debilitating complication.

Proximal versus distal adductor canal catheters for total knee arthroplasty: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.
Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is associated with severe postoperative pain. Continuous adductor canal blockade provides analgesia while preserving quadriceps muscle strength. Nevertheless, uncertainty still exists as to the optimal adductor canal catheter placement approach. We sought to conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing the analgesic effects of proximal vs distal adductor canal catheters in patients undergoing TKA. ⋯ PROSPERO (CRD42022353576); registered 25 August 2022.

Athletes and Experimental Pain: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
The evidence that athletes respond to and report indices of experimental pain differently to non-athlete populations was analysed. Databases screened were SPORTDiscus, PubMED, PsycArticles, the Cochrane Library (Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews), Web of Science, Scopus, and CINAHL. Studies that compared experimentally induced pain responses (threshold, tolerance, intensity, unpleasantness, bothersomeness, and effect on performance) in athletes and controls were included. ⋯ This study was registered on the PROSPERO site in January 2019 (ref ID: CRD42019119611). PERSPECTIVE: This review examined differences in pain outcomes (threshold, tolerance, intensity, unpleasantness, bothersomeness) and the effect of pain on performance, in athletes versus controls. Meta-analyses revealed athletes had higher threshold and tolerance and found pain less intense than controls; there was some evidence of differences in bothersomeness and performance.

Superficial parasternal intercostal plane blocks in cardiac surgery: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Traditional multimodal analgesic strategies have several contraindications in cardiac surgery patients, forcing clinicians to use alternative options. Superficial parasternal intercostal plane blocks, anesthetizing the anterior cutaneous branches of the thoracic intercostal nerves, are being explored as a straightforward method to treat pain after sternotomy. We sought to evaluate the literature on the effects of superficial parasternal blocks on pain control after cardiac surgery. ⋯ PROSPERO (CRD42022306914); first submitted 22 March 2022.
