Although bronchodilators and glucocorticoids can reduce the symptoms of cough and asthma to a certain extent, the adverse drug reactions and recurrence after recovery still trouble clinicians. Acupoint catgut embedding is effective in preventing and treating acute recurrence and deterioration of COPD, but its clinical efficacy remains controversial. Therefore, this study evaluated the clinical efficacy and safety of acupoint catgut embedding combined with conventional Western medicine for COPD through meta-analysis. ⋯ The clinical efficacy of acupoint catgut embedding combined with conventional western medicine for stable COPD is better than that of conventional western medicine, and the safety may be equivalent to that of conventional western medicine, which has the value of further research exploration.

Efficacy and Tolerability of Gefapixant for Treatment of Refractory or Unexplained Chronic Cough: A Systematic Review and Dose-Response Meta-Analysis.
Gefapixant represents an emerging therapy for patients with refractory or unexplained chronic cough. ⋯ Compared with placebo, gefapixant (45 mg orally twice daily) led to modest improvements in cough frequency, cough severity, and cough-specific quality of life but increased taste-related adverse events.

Review Meta AnalysisErector spinae plane block for postoperative pain.
Acute and chronic postoperative pain are important healthcare problems, which can be treated with a combination of opioids and regional anaesthesia. The erector spinae plane block (ESPB) is a new regional anaesthesia technique, which might be able to reduce opioid consumption and related side effects. ⋯ ESPB in addition to standard care probably does not improve postoperative pain intensity 24 hours after surgery compared to no block. The number of block-related adverse events following ESPB was low. Further research is required to study the possibility of extending the duration of analgesia. We identified 37 new studies in the updated search and there are three ongoing studies, suggesting possible changes to the effect estimates and the certainty of the evidence in the future.

Clinical efficacy of Huanglian Wendan decoction in treating type 2 diabetes mellitus: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
Huanglian Wendan decoction (HLWDD) is a traditional Chinese prescription, which has been used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in recent years. However, no studies have evaluated its underlying clinical efficacy. Therefore, we used systematic review and meta-analysis to explore the clinical efficacy of HLWDD in treating T2DM. ⋯ HLWDD can improve blood glucose and blood lipid levels in T2DM patients, and may be a potential drug to treat T2DM.

The metabolic influence of duodenal mucosal resurfacing for nonalcoholic fatty liver disease.
Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) or nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is a leading cause of chronic liver disease worldwide with decreased life expectancy. Duodenal mucosal resurfacing (DMR) has been associated with metabolic improvement in glycemic and hepatic parameters of type 2 diabetes, but the metabolic impact of DMR for NAFLD/NASH remains inconclusive. We conducted a meta-analysis to investigate metabolic effects of DMR in patients with NAFLD/NASH. ⋯ For patients with NAFLD/NASH, DMR has the trend to improve liver fat at 12 weeks, and glycemic control in terms of HbA1c level at 24 weeks based on a very low quality of evidence.
