A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) were conducted to evaluate the efficacy and safety of acupuncture-related therapy in the treatment of herpes zoster (HZ) and to provide a reference for the clinical treatment of herpes zoster. ⋯ Through a comprehensive comparison of 9 different acupuncture therapies, acupotomy was the optimal treatment to improve VAS pain scores and the time of incrustation; bloodletting, acupuncture, fire needle, and moxibustion could be effective intervention measures to improve the time of ceasing new blisters and decrustation and reduce the incidence of PHN; Western medicine was closely related to adverse reactions. The conclusions need to be further verified due to the limitations of the study.

Wrist pain on the ulnar side is often caused by ulnar impaction syndrome (UIS). Idiopathic UIS requires surgical treatment when conservative treatment fails. The 2 main surgical procedures used are the wafer procedure and ulnar shortening osteotomy (USO) of the metaphysis or diaphysis. This review aimed to analyze comparative studies of the 2 procedures in UIS to determine clinical outcomes and complications. ⋯ There was no difference in pain improvement or the postoperative functional score between the groups. Nevertheless, postoperative complications were the major pitfalls of USO. As the specialized shortening system advances further, a high-level study will be necessary to determine the surgical option in UIS.

Meta AnalysisSeroconversion following a booster dose of COVID-19 vaccine in liver transplant recipients. A systematic review and meta-analysis.
Although it is well established that 2 doses of COVID‑19 vaccines are associated with reduced immune responses in liver transplant recipients (LTRs), studies regarding their immunogenicity and tolerability after a booster dose are limited. ⋯ Our meta‑analysis demonstrated that the third dose of COVID‑19 vaccines induced adequate humoral and cellular immune responses in LTRs, while MMF remained a negative predictor of immunologic responses.

The purpose of this study was to compare the functional outcomes and re-dislocation rates of medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL) reconstruction, MPFL repair, combined proximal realignment (CPR), and conservative management for primary patellar dislocation by conducting a systematic literature search of the available studies. The hypothesis was that MPFL repair and MPFL reconstruction would be better options for treating primary patellar dislocation. ⋯ Using a network meta-analysis, this meta-analysis showed that there was no significant difference in functional outcomes in a subgroup analysis. In re-dislocation subgroup analysis, MPFL repair and MPFL reconstruction produced significantly better results than other treatments. Also, surface under the cumulative ranking curve percentage showed that MPFL reconstruction had a lower probability of re-dislocation than MPFL repair.

GDF-15 (a biomarker for metformin) and the risk of COVID-19: A two-sample Mendelian randomization study.
Regarding the impact of metformin on COVID-19, there are currently varying opinions from multiple studies. Growth differentiation factor 15 (GDF-15) is a biomarker of metformin use and dosage, and we used two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) to assess the causal effect of GDF-15 (metformin) on COVID-19 susceptibility, hospitalization, and severe COVID-19, thereby guiding the selection of glucose-lowering agents for diabetic patients during the COVID-19 pandemic. ⋯ Our study supports the notion that GDF-15 increases the risk of severe COVID-19 in patients. However, there is no causal relationship between GDF-15 and hospitalization or susceptibility to COVID-19.
