Clinical characteristics and outcome of patients aged over 80 years with covid-19.
To investigate the clinical characteristics and outcome of octogenarians with covid-19. This is a observational, retrospective, descriptive study. Consecutive patients aged >80 years who were admitted for covid-19 pneumonia during a 6 weeks period (March 20-April 30, 2020). ⋯ Deceased patients had a significantly higher frequency of dyspnea, increased inflammatory parameters, and illness severity compared to survivors. One-third of octogenarians with covid-19 died during hospitalization and most had bilateral lung involvement. A further knowledge of the characteristics and outcome of this population may assist clinicians in the decision-making process in these patients.

Prenatal serum sFlt-1/PlGF ratio predicts the adverse neonatal outcomes among small-for-gestational-age fetuses in normotensive pregnant women: A prospective cohort study.
We investigated the predictive value of the soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase-1 (sFlt-1)-to-placental growth factor (PlGF) ratio for poor neonatal outcomes of SGA neonates in the absence of preeclampsia. This prospective cohort study included 530 singleton pregnant women who attended a prenatal screening program at a single institution. The sFlt-1/PlGF values at 24 to 28+6 weeks and 29 to 36+6 weeks of gestation were analyzed and compared between control and SGA group (subdivided as with normal neonatal outcomes and with poor neonatal outcomes). ⋯ A sFlt-1/PlGF ratio cut-off of 28.15 at 29 to 36+6 weeks significantly predicted adverse outcomes among SGA neonates (sensitivity = 76.9%, specificity = 88%). In this study, sFlt-1/PlGF ratio at 29 to 36 + 6wks of SGA with adverse neonatal outcome group was significantly higher than control group. This study suggests the feasibility of the sFlt-1/PlGF ratio as helpful objective measurement for predicting the adverse SGA neonatal outcome by providing sFlt-1/PlGF cut-off value.

A novel biomarker, MRPS12 functions as a potential oncogene in ovarian cancer and is a promising prognostic candidate.
Ovarian cancer (OC) is the leading cause of gynecological cancer deaths. Extraordinary histologic and genetic heterogeneity presents as great hurdle to OC's diagnosis and treatment. MRPS12 (Mitochondrial Ribosomal Protein S12), encoding a 28S subunit protein, controls the decoding fidelity and susceptibility to aminoglycoside antibiotics. ⋯ GSEA showed that HALLMARK_G2M_CHECKPOINT, BIOCARTA_CELLCYCLE_PATHWAY, HALLMARK_PI3K_AKT_MTOR_SIGNALING, BIOCARTA_P53_PATHWAY were significantly enriched in high-MRPS12-expression phenotype. MRPS12 expression was positively correlated with the infiltration of macrophages and neutrophils in OC. These results reveal that MRPS12 could function as a potential oncogene and serve as a promising prognostic candidate in OC.

The clinical course and prognostic factors of severe COVID-19 in Wuhan, China: A retrospective case-control study.
With the surge of newly diagnosed and severe cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), the death toll is mounting, this study is aimed to explore the prognostic factors of severe COVID-19. This retrospective study included 122 inpatients diagnosed with COVID-19 from January 13 to February 25, 2020. Univariate and multivariate analysis were used to identity the risk factors, receiver operating characteristics curve (ROC) analysis was used for risk stratification. ⋯ The baseline C-reactive protein (CRP) (OR = 1.019, 95%CI = 1.004-1.306, P = .016) and B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) (OR = 1.018, 95%CI = 1.004-1.035, P = .007) were identified as the independent predictors for disease progression of severe patients. Accordingly, The NLR-LDH grading system was a useful prognostic tool for the early detection of severe COVID-19. And in the severe patients, CRP and BNP seemed to be helpful for predicting the disease progression or death.

Hemodynamically-instable ventricular arrhythmias (VAs) are rare in patients with pulmonary hypertension (PH). To the best of our knowledge, only 1 case has been reported so far. Moreover, the pathogenesis of this kind of arrhythmia remains obscured and its treatment is challenging. Here we report another case and presented the substrate for VAs initiation and therapeutic effect of radiofrequency ablation. ⋯ This case suggests the low-voltage zone of remodeled RV, which may be secondary to increased pulmonary artery pressure, serves as the substrate for VAs initiation in patient with PH. Radiofrequency ablation can successfully terminate VAs and the termination of VAs can significantly improve the patient's impaired exercise tolerance.
