Multicenter Study
Diagnostic accuracy of the magnetocardiograph for patients with suspected acute coronary syndrome.
We aimed to estimate the diagnostic accuracy of the VitalScan magnetocardiograph (MCG) for suspected acute coronary syndrome (ACS). ⋯ The VitalScan MCG is currently unable to accurately rule out ACS and is not yet ready for use in clinical practice. Further developmental research is required.

A deep learning approach to characterize 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pneumonia in chest CT images.
To utilize a deep learning model for automatic detection of abnormalities in chest CT images from COVID-19 patients and compare its quantitative determination performance with radiological residents. ⋯ • The higher sensitivity of deep learning model in detecting COVID-19 pneumonia were found compared with radiological residents on a per-lobe and per-patient basis. • The deep learning model improves diagnosis efficiency by shortening processing time. • The deep learning model can automatically calculate the volume of the lesions and whole lung.

Alcohol abuse has been identified as a risk factor for contracting human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and accelerating disease progression. Our study aims to determine alcohol consumption rates among Ecuadorian HIV positive (HIV+) patients prior to diagnosis to evaluate its impact as an independent risk factor for contracting HIV. Additionally, we will examine post-diagnosis consumption rates among the HIV+ population. ⋯ Our results show that alcohol abuse significantly increases the risk of contracting HIV. We found that prior to diagnosis, HIV patients consistently drank more frequently and a greater amount than the control group. Alcohol use significantly decreased among HIV+ patients after diagnosis.

Respiratory Mechanics and Outcomes in Immunocompromised patients with ARDS - A secondary analysis of the EFRAIM study.
In view of the high mortality rate of immunocompromised patients with ARDS, it is important to identify targets for improvement. ⋯ In immunocompromised patients with ARDS, respiratory mechanics provide additional prognostic information to predictors of hospital mortality. Studies designed to define lung-protective ventilation guided by these physiological variables may be warranted in this specific population.
