Association Between Amyloid and Tau Accumulation in Young Adults With Autosomal Dominant Alzheimer Disease.
It is critically important to improve our ability to diagnose and track Alzheimer disease (AD) as early as possible. Individuals with autosomal dominant forms of AD can provide clues as to which and when biological changes are reliably present prior to the onset of clinical symptoms. ⋯ The present findings add to the growing evidence that molecular markers can characterize biological changes associated with AD in individuals who are still cognitively unimpaired. The findings also suggest that tau PET imaging may be useful as a biomarker to distinguish individuals at high risk to develop the clinical symptoms of AD and to track disease progression.

Association Between Diastolic Blood Pressure During Pediatric In-Hospital Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Survival.
On the basis of laboratory cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) investigations and limited adult data demonstrating that survival depends on attaining adequate arterial diastolic blood pressure (DBP) during CPR, the American Heart Association recommends using blood pressure to guide pediatric CPR. However, evidence-based blood pressure targets during pediatric CPR remain an important knowledge gap for CPR guidelines. ⋯ These data demonstrate that mean DBP ≥25 mm Hg during CPR in infants and ≥30 mm Hg in children ≥1 year old was associated with greater likelihood of survival to hospital discharge and survival with favorable neurological outcome.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyInitiating Nutritional Support Before 72 Hours Is Associated With Favorable Outcome After Severe Traumatic Brain Injury in Children: A Secondary Analysis of a Randomized, Controlled Trial of Therapeutic Hypothermia.
To understand the relationship between the timing of initiation of nutritional support in children with severe traumatic brain injury and outcomes. ⋯ Initiation of nutritional support before 72 hours after traumatic brain injury was associated with decreased mortality and favorable outcome in this secondary analysis. Although this provides a rationale to initiate nutritional support early after traumatic brain injury, definitive studies that control for important covariates (severity of injury, clinical site, calories delivered, parenteral/enteral routes, and other factors) are needed to provide definitive evidence on the optimization of the timing of nutritional support after severe traumatic brain injury in children.

Use of brain diffusion tensor imaging for the prediction of long-term neurological outcomes in patients after cardiac arrest: a multicentre, international, prospective, observational, cohort study.
Prediction of neurological outcome after cardiac arrest is a major challenge. The aim of this study was to assess whether quantitative whole-brain white matter fractional anisotropy (WWM-FA) measured by diffusion tensor imaging between day 7 and day 28 after cardiac arrest can predict long-term neurological outcome. ⋯ French Ministry of Health, French National Agency for Research, Italian Ministry of Health, and Regione Lombardia.

Erythropoietin to Reduce Mortality in Traumatic Brain Injury: A Post-hoc Dose-effect Analysis.
We aimed to assess whether the dosing regimen of erythropoietin shows a relationship to mortality in critically ill patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI). ⋯ This post-hoc, hypothesis-generating analysis found potential reductions in mortality following 1 or 2 weekly doses of 40,000 IU of erythropoietin in intensive care unit patients with moderate or severe TBI, but not with 3 doses. These findings will inform the design of future trials of erythropoietin in critically ill patients with TBI and trauma.
