Characterising biological mechanisms underlying ethnicity-associated outcomes in COVID-19 through biomarker trajectories: a multicentre registry analysis.
Differences in routinely collected biomarkers between ethnic groups could reflect dysregulated host responses to disease and to treatments, and be associated with excess morbidity and mortality in COVID-19. ⋯ Clinical biochemical monitoring of COVID-19 and progression and treatment response in SARS-CoV-2 infection should be interpreted in the context of ethnic background.

Efficacy and adverse events profile of videolaryngoscopy in critically ill patients: subanalysis of the INTUBE study.
Tracheal intubation is a high-risk procedure in the critically ill, with increased intubation failure rates and a high risk of other adverse events. Videolaryngoscopy might improve intubation outcomes in this population, but evidence remains conflicting, and its impact on adverse event rates is debated. ⋯ NCT03616054.

Multicenter Study Observational StudyAssociation of anticoagulation use during continuous kidney replacement therapy and 90-day outcomes: A multicentre study.
Anticoagulation is recommended during continuous kidney replacement therapy (CKRT) to prolong the filter lifespan for optimal filter performance. We aimed to evaluate the effect of anticoagulation during CKRT on dialysis dependence and mortality within 90 days of intensive care unit (ICU) admission. ⋯ Among critically ill patients with AKI, anticoagulation use during CKRT was associated with reduced dialysis or death at 90 days post-ICU admission, which was statistically significant for regional citrate anticoagulation and trended in the same direction of benefit for systemic heparin anticoagulation. Anticoagulation during CKRT should be considered whenever possible.

Multicenter StudyCaring for Critically Ill Children With the ICU Liberation Bundle (ABCDEF): Results of the Pediatric Collaborative.
Assess clinical outcomes following PICU Liberation ABCDEF Bundle utilization. ⋯ ABCDEF Bundle is applicable to children. Although enhanced Bundle utilization correlated with decreased mortality, increased utilization did not correlate with duration of MV, PICU LOS, or delirium incidence. Additional research in the domains of comparative effectiveness, implementation science, and human factors engineering is required to understand this clinical inconsistency and optimize PICU Liberation concept integration into clinical practice.

Outcomes of critically ill older adults with COVID-19: a multicentre retrospective cohort study.
Older adults with COVID-19 have a high prevalence of complications and mortality during hospitalization. Given the large proportion of older adults requiring admission to an intensive care unit (ICU), we aimed to describe the management and outcomes of older adults with COVID-19 requiring ICU care and identify predictors of hospital mortality. ⋯ Older critically ill COVID-19 patients had long ICU and hospital stays, and approximately half died in hospital. Further research is needed to identify individuals who will benefit most from an ICU admission and to evaluate posthospitalization outcomes.
