Outcomes of critically ill patients with acute kidney injury in COVID-19 infection: an observational study.
Early reports indicate that AKI is common during COVID-19 infection. Different mortality rates of AKI due to SARS-CoV-2 have been reported, based on the degree of organic dysfunction and varying from public to private hospitals. However, there is a lack of data about AKI among critically ill patients with COVID-19. ⋯ Critically ill patients with SARS and AKI due to COVID-19 had high mortality in this cohort. Mortality was largely determined by the need for mechanical ventilation and vasopressors rather than AKI severity.

Prevention, treatment, and risk factors of deep vein thrombosis in critically ill patients in Zhejiang province, China: a multicenter, prospective, observational study.
The aim of this study is to investigate the prevention and treatment patterns of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in critically ill patients and to explore the risk factors for DVT in people from Zhejiang Province, China. ⋯ DVT prophylaxis is widely performed in ICU patients. Prophylaxis is an independent protective factor for DVT occurrence. The most common treatment of DVT patients is LMWH, although it might increase the rate of bleeding.Key messagesThis is the only multicenter and prospective study of DVT in ICUs in China.d-dimer levels were independently associated with DVT in ICU patients.Prophylaxis was an independent protective factor for DVT occurrence in ICU.

The impact of COVID-19 critical illness on new disability, functional outcomes and return to work at 6 months: a prospective cohort study.
There are few reports of new functional impairment following critical illness from COVID-19. We aimed to describe the incidence of death or new disability, functional impairment and changes in health-related quality of life of patients after COVID-19 critical illness at 6 months. ⋯ At six months after COVID-19 critical illness, death and new disability was substantial. Over a third of survivors had new disability, which was widespread across all areas of functioning. Clinical trial registration NCT04401254 May 26, 2020.

Multicenter Study Observational StudyAssociation of Delirium during Critical Illness With Mortality: Multicenter Prospective Cohort Study.
The temporal association of delirium during critical illness with mortality is unclear, along with the associations of hypoactive and hyperactive motoric subtypes of delirium with mortality. We aimed to evaluate the relationship of delirium during critical illness, including hypoactive and hyperactive motoric subtypes, with mortality in the hospital and after discharge up to 1 year. ⋯ Delirium during critical illness is associated with nearly a 3-fold increased risk of death the following day for patients in the hospital but is not associated with mortality after hospital discharge. This finding appears primarily driven by the hypoactive motoric subtype. The independent relationship between delirium and mortality occurs early during critical illness but does not persist after hospital discharge.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyIndividualised versus conventional glucose control in critically-ill patients: the CONTROLING study-a randomized clinical trial.
Hyperglycaemia is an adaptive response to stress commonly observed in critical illness. Its management remains debated in the intensive care unit (ICU). Individualising hyperglycaemia management, by targeting the patient's pre-admission usual glycaemia, could improve outcome. ⋯ Targeting an ICU patient's pre-admission usual glycaemia using a dynamic sliding-scale insulin protocol did not demonstrate a survival benefit compared to maintaining glycaemia below 180 mg/dL.
