Multicenter StudyImpact of early ICU admission for critically ill cancer patients: Post-hoc analysis of a prospective multicenter multinational dataset.
Early intensive care unit (ICU) admission, in Critically Ill Cancer Patients (CICP), is believed to have contributed to the prognostic improvement of critically ill cancer patients. The primary objective of this study was to assess the association between early ICU admission and hospital mortality in CICP. ⋯ In this cohort, early ICU admission was not associated with a better outcome after adjustment for confounder and center effect. The uncertainty with regard to the beneficial effect of early ICU on hospital mortality suggests the need for an interventional study.

Association of body mass index (BMI) with critical COVID-19 and in-hospital mortality: A dose-response meta-analysis.
The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic presents an unprecedented health crisis to the entire world. As reported, the body mass index (BMI) may play an important role in COVID-19; however, this still remains unclear. The aim of this study was to explore the association between BMI and COVID-19 severity and mortality. ⋯ Evidence from this meta-analysis suggested that a linear dose-response association between BMI and both COVID-19 severity and mortality. Further, obesity (BMI ≥ 30 kg/m2) was associated with a significantly increased risk of critical COVID-19 and in-hospital mortality of COVID-19.

Improving Outcomes for Children Requiring Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation Therapy Following Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation.
The objective of this study was to provide an updated review of survival for pediatric hematopoietic stem cell transplantation patients requiring extracorporeal membrane oxygenation therapy as well as characterize the demographics, clinical variables, and complications associated with mortality. ⋯ Pediatric patients posthematopoietic stem cell transplantation supported with extracorporeal membrane oxygenation have improving survival rates over time. With 26% of patients (16/62) surviving to hospital discharge in the last decade (2010-2019), history of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation may no longer be considered an absolute contraindication to extracorporeal membrane oxygenation. As advancements are made in hematopoietic stem cell transplantation therapies and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation management, the indications for life-saving extracorporeal membrane oxygenation support among patients posthematopoietic stem cell transplantation may expand accordingly.

ReviewFamily participation in physiotherapy-related tasks of critically ill patients: A mixed methods systematic review.
Providing an overview of studies on family participation in physiotherapy-related tasks of critically ill patients, addressing two research questions (RQ): 1) What are the perceptions of patients, relatives, and staff about family participation in physiotherapy-related tasks? and 2) What are the effects of interventions of family participation in physiotherapy-related tasks? ⋯ Positive attitudes were observed among patients, their relatives and staff towards family participation in physiotherapy-related tasks of critically ill patients. However, limited research has been done into the effect of interventions containing family participation in physiotherapy-related tasks.
