Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyConducting a paediatric multi-centre RCT with an industry partner: challenges and lessons learned.
There are many benefits of multi-centred research including large sample sizes, statistical power, timely recruitment and generalisability of results. However, there are numerous considerations when planning and implementing a multi-centred study. This article reviews the challenges and successes of planning and implementing a multi-centred prospective randomised control trial involving an industry partner. ⋯ Further, multifaceted ethical and institutional approval processes needed to be negotiated. The challenges, successes, lessons learned and recommendations from this study regarding Australian and New Zealand ethics and research governance approval processes, collaboration with industry partners and the management of differing expectations will be outlined. Recommendations for future multi-centred research with industry partners include provision of regular written reports for the industry partner; continual monitoring and prompt resolution of concerns; basic research practices education for industry partners; minimisation of industry partner contact with participants; clear roles and responsibilities of all stakeholders and utilisation of single ethical review if available.

This multicenter study examines acute stress reactions in couples following a burn event to their preschool child. ⋯ Mothers and fathers are seriously affected by their child's burn trauma and share a part of their acute stress reactions. These results emphasize the importance of a family-based approach to support adjustment after pediatric medical trauma.

Nylon-reinforced silver sodium carboxymethylcellulose (AQUACEL(®) Ag BURN) dressings were developed to be pliable and conforming for the management of partial-thickness burns. This study evaluated the AQUACEL(®) Ag BURN glove for the management of hand burns. ⋯ The AQUACEL(®) Ag BURN glove was well tolerated in the management of partial-thickness hand burn. Many patients used only one glove. When glove changes were required, they were usually quick and easy.

Are there predicting factors for burn patients that transfer to a rehabilitation center upon completion of acute care?
Choosing the right burn patient that transfers to a rehabilitation facility following acute hospitalization is a difficult decision. In our study we characterize demographic, injury and hospitalization related variables that predict a burn patient's transfer to a rehabilitation facility. ⋯ In this study we examined patients who were sent to a rehabilitation facility upon completion of their acute care in an attempt to evaluate common initial clinical variables that assist in making an educated decision regarding the patient rehabilitation transfer. This is one of the first attempts at examining and revealing evidence based parameters that might determine the correct burn patient to send to rehabilitation after his hospitalization.

Multicenter StudyImpact of hand burns on health-related quality of life in children younger than 5 years.
The purpose of this multicenter study was to evaluate the impact of hand burn injury in preschool children younger than 5 years on health-related quality of life, including both physical and psychosocial function, in the 5 years after burn injury. ⋯ Children with hand burns have significantly worse outcomes than do children with burns in other areas.
