Diagnostic value of gamma-glutamyltransferase/aspartate aminotransferase ratio, protein induced by vitamin K absence or antagonist II, and alpha-fetoprotein in hepatitis B virus-related hepatocellular carcinoma.
Researchers have investigated the diagnostic value of protein induced by vitamin K absence or antagonist II (PIVKA-II) and alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) in hepatitis B virus (HBV)-related hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), and obtained abundant clinical diagnostic data. However, PIVKA-II and AFP have unsatisfactory specificity and sensitivity in the diagnosis of early-stage HBV-related HCC. Gamma-glutamyltransferase (γ-GT) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) are common biomarkers for evaluating liver function, and we hypothesized that the γ-GT/AST ratio in combination with PIVKA-II and AFP would improve the diagnosis of early-stage HBV-related HCC. ⋯ The γ-GT/AST ratio may be better than PIVKA-II and AFP in the diagnosis of early-stage HBV-related HCC, and its combination with PIVKA-II and AFP can improve the diagnostic value for HBV-related HCC.

Liquid biopsy in hepatocellular carcinoma: circulating tumor cells and circulating tumor DNA.
Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most common cancers and a leading cause of death worldwide. Due to latent liver disease, late diagnosis, and nonresponse to systemic treatments, surgical resection and/or biopsy specimens are still generally considered as the gold standard by clinicians for clinical decision-making until now. Since the conventional tissue biopsy is invasive and contains small tissue samples, it is unable to represent tumor heterogeneity or monitor dynamic tumor progression. ⋯ Liquid biopsy is noninvasive and allows repeated analyses to monitor tumor recurrence, metastasis or treatment responses in real time. With the advanced development of new molecular techniques, HCC circulating tumor cells (CTCs) and circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) detection have achieved interesting and encouraging results. In this review, we focus on the clinical applications of CTCs and ctDNA as key components of liquid biopsy in HCC patients.

We evaluated the detection rate and degree of motion artifact of the modified CAIPIRINHA-VIBE (mC-VIBE) without view-sharing and compare them with the CAIPIRINHA-Dixon-TWIST-VIBE (CDT-VIBE) with view-sharing on multi-arterial gadoxetic acid-enhanced liver MRI in the assessment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). ⋯ • Multi-arterial phase using the mC-VIBE without view-sharing can overcome motion artifacts, resulting in providing optimal arterial phase imaging. • The HCC-detection rate is slightly higher with the mC-VIBE vs. CAIPIRINHA-Dixon-TWIST-VIBE with view-sharing (CDT-VIBE). • View-sharing of CDT-VIBE in the multi-arterial phase is associated with increased frequency of TSM.

Intrahepatic mass-forming cholangiocarcinoma growing in a giant hepatic hemangioma: A case report.
Hepatic hemangioma (HH) is a common benign tumor with a high number of normal or abnormal blood vessels. Intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC) is a relatively common malignant primary hepatic carcinoma (10%-15%) with high incidence rate and high fatality, yet low discovery rate in the early stages. Ultrasonography (US), computed tomography, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are frequently used and indispensable imaging techniques for the diagnosis of hepatic lesions. It is possible to differentiate a liver lesion from HH with high accuracy owing to their different patterns and hemodynamic characteristics. ⋯ Although preoperative imaging of focal hepatic lesions is indispensable, intraoperative frozen section analysis and histopathological examination remain essential for definitive diagnosis. This is particularly important for high-risk patients and those with suspected malignancy.
