Palonosetron plus 1-day dexamethasone for the prevention of nausea and vomiting due to moderately emetogenic chemotherapy: effect of established risk factors on treatment outcome in a phase III trial.
The non-inferiority of palonosetron plus 1-day versus 3-day dexamethasone in preventing chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV) due to moderately emetogenic chemotherapy (MEC) has been previously demonstrated. ⋯ This analysis confirmed that the 1-day regimen provides a valid treatment option for prevention of CINV in delayed, non-AC-based MEC.

Inhalation aromatherapy in children and adolescents undergoing stem cell infusion: results of a placebo-controlled double-blind trial.
Though often lifesaving, stem cell transplantation (SCT) is a period of great distress for both child and parent. ⋯ Although this trial did not report a benefit of inhalation aromatherapy for reducing anxiety, nausea, or pain when added to standard supportive care, it provides the first experimental rather than descriptive report on testing a single therapeutic essential oil among children and adolescents undergoing stem cell infusion. Future research may consider exploring the cutaneous application of essential oil through massage or other psychoeducational counseling interventions among parents with elevated anxiety and patients with greater information seeking coping styles during SCT.

Randomized Controlled TrialGabapentin for the prevention of chemotherapy- induced nausea and vomiting: a pilot study.
Chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV) is a distressing side effect that affects many patients undergoing emetogenic chemotherapy, despite the use of antiemetic medications. The purpose of this trial was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of gabapentin for the prevention of CINV during the first cycle of treatment in patients receiving moderately or highly emetogenic chemotherapy. ⋯ Gabapentin is a low-cost strategy to improve complete control of CINV, specially delayed CINV control.

Slow infusion metoclopramide does not affect the improvement rate of nausea while reducing akathisia and sedation incidence.
To compare the effects of metoclopramide infusion in emergency department (ED) patients complaining of nausea to determine the changes in its therapeutic effect and prevention of side effects such as akathisia and sedation. ⋯ Even though slowing the rate of infusion of metoclopramide does not affect the rate of improvement in nausea, it may be an effective strategy for reducing the incidence of akathisia and sedation in patients with nausea.

Transdermal sumatriptan for acute treatment of migraineurs with baseline nausea.
To evaluate the efficacy and safety of transdermal sumatriptan in migraine patients who have baseline nausea. ⋯ Transdermal sumatriptan is superior to oral triptans for migraine patients whose baseline nausea causes them to delay or avoid acute treatment.
