Characteristics of an Older Adult Population Without COVID-19 Infection in a Southeast Minnesota Community.
To assess demographic characteristics, public health measures, and health beliefs or behaviors that differentiate participants with a history of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection from those with no history of COVID-19. ⋯ Depending on the communicability, virulence, and pathogenicity of future COVID-19 variants, local, state, and federal governments must continue to consider the risks and benefits of public health initiatives that take into consideration these protective factors.

This update, titled Providing Quality Family Planning Servicesa in the United States: Recommendations of the U. S. Office of Population Affairs (Revised 2024), provides recommendations developed by the Office of Population Affairs (OPA) within the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health at the U. ⋯ The update offers specific recommendations for how to provide high-quality SRH care and connects users to relevant guidelines, primary research, and other resources to inform best practices. In addition to incorporating new evidence, this update incorporates newer approaches to care, including adopting a health equity lens that recognizes the impact of structural and interpersonal racism, classism, ableism, and bias based on sexual orientation and/or gender identity on health and the provision of quality SRH care. OPA will update these QFP recommendations periodically to reflect new findings in the scientific literature and revisions to the clinical guidelines referenced in this update.

Living in socioeconomically deprived areas is associated with shorter lives and worse health. GPs working in these areas face additional challenges compared with those in more affluent locations. ⋯ Improving the environmental conditions, empowering individuals, and investing in communities are essential factors to achieving health. The current model of providing reactionary acute care is leading to GPs experiencing powerlessness and feelings of helplessness at the Deep End.

This study seeks to estimate health care expenditures and use associated with hypertension, focusing on differences among racial and ethnic groups. ⋯ This study reveals differences in health care expenditures and use associated with hypertension among racial and ethnic groups. Future studies are needed to examine potential drivers of these differences.

Self-harm is a growing problem in young people. GPs are usually the first point of healthcare contact for young people aged 16-25 years, after self-harm. GPs can experience barriers to supporting young people and behaviour change theory can help to understand these, and the influences on, GP behaviour. ⋯ GPs are supported by their practice teams to support young people after self-harm, but a lack of time hinders opportunities to do so. Future effective GP-led interventions may improve GP motivation to support young people after self-harm.
