AbstractThe cheap and cheerful Mills and Boon medical romances are always good for a bit of escapism when you've had a particularly hard day. How accurately these popular paperbacks portray life on a typical hospital ward is questionable, but then they make no claim to documentary status, as Carrie Howse points out in her article on the image of nurses ( page 20 ).
