AbstractThe author studied 200 shoulders in 100 normal persons over the age of 60 and found the following changes in the acromioclavicular joint due to old age: simple sclerosis of the joint surfaces, some new bone formation, hypertrophy of the acromial end of the clavicle, uneveness of the acromion and caudal dislocation of the clavicle. Marginal changes of the clavicle at the point of attachment of the coraco-clavicular ligament are also due to old age and are not a sign of rheumatoid arthritis.
