AbstractHepatitis C virus is a disease of major public health significance throughout the world in terms of overall morbidity and mortality and in its economic consequences and demands on medical resources. The global economic burden of this disease has yet to be fully realized. In this article the authors discuss the economic burden of hepatitis C, the economics of therapy, and the economics of its prevention and screening.
