AbstractAlström syndrome is a rare genetic condition that affects cardiac, respiratory, endocrine, hepatorenal, gastrointestinal, auditory, ophthalmic, and musculoskeletal systems. This multisystem syndrome poses significant anesthetic challenges, along with a high likelihood of perioperative adverse clinical outcomes. A literature review revealed no reports on the anesthetic management for emergency surgery in adults with Alström syndrome. We report the perioperative management of a patient with Alström syndrome who presented for an emergency laparotomy due to an ischemic bowel. This report highlights perioperative challenges in the management of this condition in the emergency setting.Copyright © 2021 International Anesthesia Research Society.
