AbstractHenry K. Beecher performed blood pH and gas analysis on patients in the 1940s, though the biochemical technology was not widely available until the 1950s. Two of Beecher's biochemist coworkers, Fritz Lipmann and Christian B. Anfinsen, went on to earn Nobel Prizes.
