AbstractThe historical development of the Employment Medical Advisory Service is described, and the Service's present organization is related to its range of activities, including its role as a source of information and advice on occupational health. The Employment Medical Advisory Service's influence on the development of occupational health practice, the collection of new knowledge and its adaptability in changing social and employment conditions is described, and examples of its work are given.
