AbstractCardiac rupture following blunt trauma is usually fatal. Patients arriving alive at the hospital may be saved with prompt diagnosis and treatment. We report a case where a haemopericardium was diagnosed by ultrasonography in a 28-year-old man involved in a motor vehicle accident. A tear in the right atrial appendage was successfully repaired in the operating room at the Emergency Department without the use of a cardiopulmonary bypass.
