AbstractProgenics Pharmaceuticals Inc and Wyeth Pharmaceuticals are developing methylnaltrexone, a micro-receptor opioid antagonist derived from naltrexone by the addition of a methyl group. The intravenous formulation of methylnaltrexone is currently in phase III clinical trials for the potential treatment of postoperative ileus.
