    AbstractAS THE festive season approaches, the government will reassure the public that the NHS is sufficiently prepared to avoid a winter crisis. However, winter preparations coincide with a junior doctors' pay campaign and a perceived need for 'seven-day services' because of the 'weekend effect'.
